1. LEARNING GOALS / OBJECTIVES

What are your goals / objectives for student learning for this lesson? What To what extent did your students learn what you intended? How do you
do you want your students to learn? know?
The students exceeded my expectations about

demonstrated self-control while participating in the
music-making experiences. I was also impressed with
how much of the information the students quickly
recalled as we worked to reinforce the concepts we
have been learning in the general Kindergarten music
class.

Why have you chosen these goals / objectives? What goals / objectives would you plan for similar instruction in the future?
Why?
This lesson plan is designed to incorporate and I would plan to incorporate more specific adapted
reinforce materials from the general kindergarten objectives that would supplement my objectives for the
classroom instruction in an adapted format to best standard Kindergarten lesson curriculum to ensure that
ensure that the material is presented in a way that the students are getting the support that they need. (I
each student can succeed to the best of their want to respect the need for flexible pacing for these

objectives forward/backward to accommodate individual
pacing needs.)
2. STUDENT GROUPING

How will you group your students for instruction? In what ways was your plan for student grouping effective? How do you
know?
Small-group instruction
The extremely small class size allowed the small-
group instruction model to be highly effective since I
could connect / interact with each student and the
students could interact with each other.

Why have you chosen this grouping? What grouping would you plan for similar instruction in the future? Why?

I would plan to utilize the same small-group instruction

There ave only three students in this class, so model in the future with this group since it provides

engagement throughout the lesson.

These activities are an engaging way for I would plan for additional sensory activities and

their own pace. classroom musical instruction.

5. MATERIALS

What instructional materials will you use for this lesson? In what ways were your teaching materials effective? How do you know?
The sensory scarves and the water activity created a
• Sensory Scarves calming environment which positively affected the level of
• water/bowl/picnic blanket student engagement. (The students were laughing and
• Mortimer book happily participating in these activities.) The use of the
• Xylophones xylophones was also extremely effective as seen through
the students' use of positive self-control.
What teaching materials would you use for similar instruction in the future?
Why have you chosen these materials? Why?
The sensory scarves and the water are both effective I would plan to use all of these materials in similar
sensory related materials that are calming to the instruction due to the effectiveness of the calming
students. The students are familiar with the Mortimer sensory activities and the opportunity for the students
story and the xylophones are being used to reinforce to continue practicing self-control.

6. EVALUATION

How and when do you plan to evaluate student learning on the content of Did anything happen during this lesson that influenced your evaluation plan?
this lesson? If so, how has it changed, and why?
I will be utilizing informal assessment while observing Surprisingly, no!
each student's participation in the lesson to see if they
are able to achieve the lesson goal that I have created
for them.
Why have you chosen this approach to evaluation? How will you use the information from the evaluation to plan future
instruction?
Individual informal assessment is an effective way I learned that Atlas is more capable to participate in
to gauge if the students are meeting the lesson Music class than he has exhibited in past lessons. I will
objectives through the means of observation. use the information that I have learned to continue
crafting a patient and supportive approach to promote
higher levels of engagement in instruction for him.

7. GENERAL REFLECTIONS AFTER THE OBSERVATION

Did you depart from anything you planned for today? If so, why?
Yes, I did depart from what I had planned since a student who is typically non-compliant expressed
significant interest in mosquitoes (which we incorporated in points throughout the lesson). (This is the most
engaged I have ever seen this student!

If you were going to teach this class again to the same students, what would you do differently? What would you do the same? Why?

If I were to teach this lesson again to the same students, I would maintain the sequencing and the lesson activities
since the three students were engaged throughout the whole lesson. Something I would modify is having the
students practice the sprinkling motion with their hands to prevent "rubbing" raindrops to protect all of the adults’
hair during the rain activity.
Based on what happened today, what do you plan to do next with this class?

If I were to see these students again, we would return to the weather related activities and would introduce
other weather related songs and sensory activities to supplement what the students are learning in their
classroom.

Identify an individual or group of students who did well in today’s lesson. How do you account for this individual’s or group’s performance? How will you
help this individual or group extend their learning?

Atlas was a superstar today! He was incredibly engaged as seen through his participation in the activities.
Specifically, Atlas was singing with the songs, using the sensory scarves appropriately, happily sprinkling water
in our rain chant, and safely playing the xylophones while exercising self-control. Maintaining routine and
providing hands-on learning activities is the most effective learning outlet for Atlas.

Identify an individual or group of students who had difficulty in today’s lesson. How do you account for this individual’s or group’s performance? How will
you help this individual or group achieve the learning goals or objectives?
Mark seemed to struggle with his OCD throughout the rain sensory activity and the Mortimer xylophone playing
activity. Throughout these two activities, I provided Mark with the space to work at his own pace while also praising
his attention to detail. I can best support Mark's future learning success by providing him with the opportunity to
work at his own pace and by eliminating distractions for him to help him stay focused.

Please add any other comments, reactions, or questions about the lesson. For example, is there anything that you felt particularly good, frustrated, or
confused about?

This lesson was by for the most engaged I have ever seen these three students. So many things went better
(particularly smoother) than I had anticipated. All in all, this lesson was a HUGE win for these students!
