IMMUNE SYSTEM The role

of immune system is to protect an organism

from disease or other potentially damaging
foreign bodies. It identifies threats and finds
ways to fight them.
Immune system of plants: Don't have the ability to
become immune when exposed to infection. Have cells that
can respond to pathogens individually.
•Immune system of plants
•Each plant cell contains receptors that recognize
pathogen molecules. Responses to pathogens: cell wall
production and thickening, production of antimicrobial
compounds (phytoalexins and enzymes), and cell death.
IMMUNE SYSTEM OF ANIMALS.
Has the ability to become immune when they are exposed
to infection. Has a multifaceted and complex immune
system capable of protecting them against invasive
pathogens or disease-causing organisms.
•Sensory and motor Mechanisms Of ANIMALS
• Directly controlled by their nervous systems. Sensory Information is
conveyed and perceived by the following:
• 1. The presence of a physical stimulus
• 2. The transduction of the stimulus into electrochemical impulses in
the sensory receptors.
• 3. The transmission of action potentials in the sensory neurons.
• 4. The interpretation of the stimulus perceived by the central
nervous system.
•SENSORY AND MOTOR MECHANISMS:
PLANTS Part 1.Plants have sensory and motor mechanisms
that give them ability to sense and respond to their environment
Plants react to light, chemicals, gravity, water, and even touch.
Tropism – ability of plants to respond to a certain
stimulus
DIFFERENT TROPISMS OF
PLANTS:
PHOTOTROPISM
Movement of the plant in response to
light, usually in the direction toward
the light.
GEOTROPISM
• Movement of the plant in
response to gravitational
force
• Negative Geotropism-
plant part moves away
from Earth
• Positive Geotropism–
plant part moves toward
Earth.
HYDROTROPISM
• Movement of the plant in response to water.

Movement
of the plant
in response
to water.
THIGMOTROPISM

Also referred to
as haptotropism
Movement of
the plant in
response to
contact with a
solid object.
CHEMOTROPISM

The growth of
movement of the plant
or part of the plant in
response to a chemical
stimulus. (ex. growth of
a pollen tube down the
style during fertilization
in response to the
presence of sugars
THERMOTROPISM

The turning
or bending
of a plant in
response to
a directional
source of
heat
