Vitamins
• The term vitamin was coined by – C. Funk
• Vitamins are –
- micro nutrients - -biological regulators -metabolic regulators
- organic compounds (needed in small quantities)
• They cannot be synthesised in the body except vitamin D & vitamin K
• They are generally divided in 2 groups :
* Fat soluble vitamins * Water soluble vitamins
- includes (Vitamin K, E, D, A) - include (Vitamin B & C)
- If taken in excess can cause – - If taken in excess, they are
Hyper vitaminosis – results in – washed away
Hair loss, cracked mouth, etc.
