GENERAL PROPERTIES OF GAS
Gases are easy to compress.

Gases expand to fill their containers.

Gases occupy far more space than liquids or solids. They

also diffuse.

Gas have low densities.

To an excellent approximation, all gases behave in the same way in
response to changes in temperature and pressure.
KINETIC MOLECULAR
THEORY (KMT)
❖ Known as Kinetic Theory of
Gases
❖ It explain the measurable
properties of gas in terms of
small-scale movements of
gas particles.
KINETIC MOLECULAR
THEORY (KMT)
❖ Based on scientific observations of
gases to explain the microscopic
features and on the assumption
that matter is made up of small
particles that are always in motion .
❖ A theory that describes matter
states.
ASSUMPTIONS OF KMT (GAS)
1. Gases consist of huge
numbers of tiny
spherical particles that
are far apart from one
another compared to
their size.

in random directions.

3. Collisions between gas particles, and
between particles and the container walls
are elastic collisions.

4. There are no
forces of attraction
or repulsion
between gas
particles.

5. The average
kinetic energy of gas
particles is
dependent upon the
temperature of the
gas.
