2. Synopsis
This journal discusses the implementation of Islamic business ethics in Small
and Medium Enterprises (UKM), with a case study on SME XYZ. In the Indonesian
context, the rapid growth of the SME sector increases tight and complex business
competition between them. Existing business competition tends to be unhealthy and
ignores ethical values. Therefore, it is important to discuss business ethics in SMEs in
order to form an operational basis and avoid deviations from ethical values.
As a fish processing producer that has received halal certification by the MUI,
UKM XYZ is expected to be able to apply Islamic business ethics in its activities. The
aim of this research is to describe the implementation of Islamic business ethics which
consists of four principles, namely unity, equilibrium, desire for freedom, and
responsibility, in XYZ SMEs.
The method used in this research is qualitative descriptive analysis through four
stages of data collection, data reduction, data display and conclusions. The results of
this research indicate that UKM XYZ has implemented Islamic business ethics in its
operations. Thus, SME XYZ is not only profit-oriented, but also pays attention to
ethical values in every activity.

4. Lack of journals
1. The scope of discussion is still limited to certain aspects, such as the
implementation of worship, the wage system, justice, freedom to innovate and
responsibility. However, there are still many other relevant aspects to be analyzed
in accordance with the four pillars of Islamic business ethics, such as
relationships with consumers, suppliers, the environment and other social issues.
2. The research method used is still purely qualitative descriptive. This research
should use a multimethodological approach by integrating qualitative and
quantitative methods, for example through participant observation, in-depth
interviews and surveys.
3. The sample of informants is too small, only 5 people. The number of informants
should be greater and represent various relevant stakeholders, such as workers,
management, consumers, business partners and the surrounding community.
4. Data analysis and interpretation of results are still too descriptive and lack depth.
There should be a comparative analysis with conventional business practices and
international business ethical standards.
5. The implications of research results for theory development and public policy are
still lacking. There should be policy recommendations to increase the application
of Islamic business ethics at the SME level.
5. Recommendations
1. Expand the scope of discussion to other relevant aspects in accordance with the four
pillars of Islamic business ethics, such as relationships with consumers, suppliers,
the environment and social responsibility.
2. Use a multimethodological approach by integrating qualitative and quantitative
methods, for example participant observation, in-depth interviews, surveys, focus
group discussions, and document/archive analysis.
3. Increase the number and variety of informants by representing various relevant
stakeholders such as workers, management, consumers, business partners, local
communities, government/regulators.
4. Carry out more in-depth and comprehensive data analysis, for example content
analysis, comparison with theory and other field findings.
5. Provide implications of research results for theory and policy development, for
example models for implementing Islamic business ethics, guidelines/certification,
and mentoring/training instruments.
6. Conduct follow-up research with stronger designs, representative samples, and
multivariate data analysis to test the findings statistically.
7. Disseminate research results to various related parties to develop the application of
Islamic-oriented business ethics.
6. Suggestions
1. Define more clearly the scope and focus of the discussion according to the four
pillars of Islamic business ethics. Limit it to 1-2 main aspects so that the analysis
becomes more in-depth.
2. Explain the background of the problem and research objectives in more detail, for
example the problems faced by SMEs related to business ethics.
3. Improve the quality of research design by adding and expanding research variables
according to the focus.
4. Increase the number of informants from various relevant stakeholders so that the
results are more representative.
5. Use more varied data collection techniques, such as observation, in-depth interviews,
focus groups, surveys and document studies.
6. Carry out data reduction and analysis more systematically and comprehensively by
drawing conclusions based on field findings.
7. Provide a clear description of the impact and implications of research results for
theory, practice and policy related to the topic.
8. Provide practical suggestions and recommendations to improve the implementation
of business ethics in SMEs in the future.
9. Increase references from current and relevant sources to support theoretical
discussions.

understand.
