02 ACTIVITY 2

CONFLICT RESOLUTION

1. As their supervisor, first thing I need to know is the conflict’s content and history. I need to evaluate
personalities and positions. I need to know why Joseph has been struggling to accomplish basic tasks and
seems that he is disinclined to participate in an upcoming team project with Kate. Maybe Joseph has
problem with his family or friends, or maybe in his own relationship. I need to ask him directly maybe he
can open up something with me that will give us solution to the conflict. Communication is very important
because on Joseph’s scenario, is not just him that will be affected, but also Kate who works on the
upcoming project they have.

2. I need to negotiate disagreements. Disagreements are not negotiated until everyone understands the
facts and feelings that caused the conflict. As a manager, I need them to know if they have completed
their job properly. Why Mia’s request was granted? It’s because Mia is the person who contributes a lot in
the company and before we react, we should know first if we deserve to have such kind of privilege, right?
It is very obvious, and before we request on something, we need to make sure that at least we have
accomplished something that contributes in the company.

3. In this situation, we’ll continue to discuss and let brielle listen. I need to calm myself so that I can think
properly on what to do to avoid frustrations. At the end of the meeting, I’ll ask brielle what is she late.
After that, I’ll suggest recommendations so that next time we avoid to become late and we can do it on
time.

4. In this situation, I need to become a skillful questioner by asking open-ended questions. I actually wanted
to become open and confront them somehow. I need to solidify agreements. We need to identify agreed
upon solutions and offer compromises for unresolved issues. I need to make sure that they understand
me.
