Guidelines for booking and attending

writing consultation sessions

1. Prepare for your consultation

Carefully plan your questions and prepare for the consultation session. In order to do
this, you will need to have looked at your Writing Requirement feedback available on
Learn@PolyU. Analysing your teacher’s comments beforehand will allow you to
prepare questions and make better use of your tutorial time.

Remember to ready a soft copy of your original draft and Writing Requirement
feedback to the session.

2. Book a consultation session

You are entitled to two consultation sessions. You can have one session for the Draft
1 plan and one for Draft 2, or both sessions for the same draft. Please note that the
sessions are on a first-come-first-served basis. You can start booking a session after
the assignment submission closes. The latest time you can book is 6pm, on the day
before the consultation is due to take place. Students can book available writing
consultation sessions online at http://booking.elc.polyu.edu.hk. Please check this site
regularly for changes in bookings during the registration period.

3. Sessions for registered students only

At most two students can book the same session. The consultation will be given by
the ELC teacher who read and gave feedback on your draft. Consultation booking is
accepted through this online system only. Therefore, do not bring a friend to a booked
session unless the friend has registered for the same session. Also, do not email an
ELC teacher directly to request joining a session that is already full.

4. Attend a booked session

* Join the online meeting room for Draft 1 ON TIME with the link sent to you in
your consultation booking confirmation email.

*Report at the CILL counter (at A305) BEFORE attending the Draft 2 face-to-face
consultation session.
5. Cancel your booking
You can cancel your booked session online the latest at 6pm the evening before the
session is due to take place. This way you can still keep your entitlement, and
book another session later. Special reasons given for being absent without
cancelling a session will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Special cancellation
requests should be sent to elc.ewr@polyu.edu.hk.

6. Absence from a consultation session

If you are absent for a session without having cancelled it, you lose one session of
entitlement. Each student is entitled to two sessions.

7. Do not email teachers to book/cancel a session

Please do not book or cancel a session by emailing your ELC feedback teacher. All
bookings and cancellations MUST be made online.

8. Make up
No makeup consultation session is provided for a missed session. Instead, you should
try to register for another available session online. Please note that you can only book
two sessions during this semester. You can use the sessions for one or both drafts.
