EXPLORING GENDER INEQUALITY AT THE WORKPLACE: IS IT HAPPENING

Am Hello everyone, good morning to our lovely audiences. Welcome

back to our forum show, Talk That Talk, with me, Adham Mohsin,
your favorite moderator. Alright, before we proceed with our
discussion today, you might wonder what our topic is all about.
Therefore, our forum’s topic today is EXPLORING GENDER
INEQUALITY AT THE WORKPLACE: IS IT HAPPENING.
Sounds interesting isn’t it?

However, before we go further on this topic, I would like to share

with all of you the definition of “gender inequality”. Syaza Shukri,
Rabiah, and others in the article titled “Gender Discrimination in
Employment Practices, a Case Study of the Malaysian Civil
Servant” have highlighted the interpretation of gender inequality
which can be referred to labor market discrimination, gender-based
wage discrimination, or even sexual harassment at the workplace.

To support the idea of this definition, from the same article, authors
have found the data that Malaysia shows near-perfect gender
equality in education (0.989 scores), but experiences a significant
drop in economic participation (0.639). Notably, women hold only
one in four senior roles (0.256 scores). Quit concerning, right?

No worries, ladies and gentlemen, I have invited a few panelists

with us today to discuss more regarding our topic and I believe
their opinions can assist us in understanding the main issue of
gender inequality in the workplace.

FIRST ROUND

Am Okay, so without further due, let us start our forum today with the
first round. I’d love to invite Miss Dalia, one of the workers at
company XY to share her thoughts on gender inequality at her
workplace. So, Miss Dalia, would you mind sharing whether you
agree or not if there is an issue in terms of insufficient paternal and
maternal leave?

Dalia

Am Thank you very much for your insightful point, Miss Dalia. Now,
let's move on to our second panelist, Dr Farahin-CEO of Vitamilk
SDN BHD. How are you Dr?
Farahin

Am That’s wonderful, Dr. Now since we are talking about gender

inequality, would you mind sharing with all of our audiences about
your stand in this matter and maybe share an initiative that supports
your argument?

Farahin

Am Wow, I never realized we have that kind of policy against the

stigma of gender inequality in the workplace in our country! Great
sharing Dr. However, Dr. Farahin and Miss Dalia, would both of
you share your insight in terms of leadership roles and relate it to
gender inequality? We start with Dr Farahin, the floor is all yours.

SECOND ROUND

Am Thanks for sharing. Now let’s move on to the 2nd round of our
forum. I’m really glad to invite Madam Fatin Sabronzo, mom of
two children, as she was a worker at company XOXO. Now,
Madam Fatin, would you mind sharing why you decided to leave
and quit working since I heard it was related to sexual harassment?

Fatin

Am Oh goodness, I'm so sorry to hear that, Madam Fatin. Now, I would

like to introduce to you ladies and gentlemen, our last panelist for
today, Mr. Haji Syahmi, a worker at AMbitious Company Sdn.
Bhd. Nice to see you, Mr Syahmi.

Syahmi

Am Okay, Mr. Syahmi, please explain to us briefly whether you agree

or not if I say there is a policy or regulation provided to prevent the
issue of sexual harassment in the workplace.

Syahmi

Am Thank you Mr. Syahmi, for such an enlightening answer from you.
Okay, now I have a question regarding the treatment received by
both female and male workers in the workplace. So, maybe Madam
Fatin and Mr Syahmi would like to tell us what your stands in this
matter. Mr Syahmi may start first, the floor is yours.

THIRD ROUND

Am Okay, great Madam Fatin. Now, we have reached the 3rd round, the
Q&A session with all of our panelists regarding our topic,
EXPLORING GENDER INEQUALITY AT THE WORKPLACE:
IS IT HAPPENING? Okay, let us proceed with Dr Farahin first. Dr
Farahin, can you share about the balance paternity right?

Farahin

Am Brilliant anwer, Dr Farahin. Now, Madam Fatin, may I hear from

you about an irrelevant issue regarding the sexy dress code in the
workplace?

Fatin

Am Fantastic thought, Madam Fatin. Okay Mr Syahmi, would you

mind telling us specifically about more gender-equal sharing of
unpaid work? Any idea, sir?

Syahmi

Am Such a firm answer, Mr Syahmi. Thanks for the idea. Now, our last
panelist, Miss Dalia, maybe you can tell us more details regarding
maternal discrimination.

Dalia

Am The best answer I've ever heard, Miss Dalia. Thank you very much.
Thus, this remark is the end of our forum today. Before we end our
meaningful forum sessions, I would like to share with all of the
panelists and all of the audiences, some calls to action that can be
taken against the issue of gender inequality at the workplace and it
was stated in Gender Equality at the Workplace: Malaysia’s Stance
and Prevailing Challenges International Journal of Innovation and
Business Strategy (IJIBS).

Firstly, promoting gender equality in organizations, emphasizing

equal treatment for women in office work. Secondly,
acknowledging and rewarding women's efforts with higher pay,
improved benefits, and career advancement.

So, that’s all from us, thank you so much to our lovely panelist and
to all of our audiences. See you next week in Talk That Talk. Bye
