Reflection: (What have you learned about your students? How will this inform future instruction?)
From this experience, I was able to get a better understanding of how my students approach the materials they are given. When called over to the table they
showed a lot of excitement when they saw the marshmallows. I asked them how can we connect them, some knew and some didn’t, I modeled for them how I
wanted them to connect them to make the shapes. When showing them the shape cards, I asked them what shape it is and most of them knew, I then asked them
how many sides they have. I placed two of the same shape card on each end of the table and asked them to build the shape. Most started out by using the
toothpicks and marshmallows, connecting them like I instructed, but as we went onto the next shape, there were two students that took the shape cards and traced
them with marshmallows to make the shape. I believe that this can help me form future instruction to provide more or limited amount of supplies to make the
shapes. I think in the future I would introduce all of the shapes first and we would go over the amount of sides and points. I have learned that certain students do
very well with instructions and a few need consistent reminders to stay on task. Between the first and second groups I changes the structure of the activity
because I noticed students worked at different paces and became bored and fidgety when they finished before everyone else. In the second group I gave them the
option to create whatever shape they wanted
