Module Two Assignment: Written Response

1. Identify an audience for your project.

The primary audience for my project would be students, the working class, and
other professionals, especially if they work/study from home or have strenuous,
long schedules. This also applies to stay-at-home parents since parenting is in all
technicalities a full-time job.

2. Identify a second audience for your project.

Other people who may also benefit from this information could be mental health
professionals working in corporate or educational environments, and business
surveyors and pollsters seeking insight on work-from-home culture. Parents who
work or stay out of the house can also benefit from understanding the struggles of
the parents staying at home. Regular office workers and offline students too can
utilize this to be able to take better breaks.

3. Describe the writing situation for your project.

The writing situation here is rather unique. While the main aim here is to analyze
the subject, i.e. the benefits of leisure time, through the original author’s point of
view, my project hopes to focus more on the specific stressors and situations
involved as well as how to break out of the “grind” mindset, which insists on
longer time put into work and relentless productivity. While the discipline
involved may be beneficial to a degree, the constant need to stay prolific is a huge
setback once the mind begins to tire from overwork.

4. Explain why each audience is appropriate for the content and writing situation.

The majority of people involved in the primary audience are either heavily
dedicated to their work or have long working hours that can easily begin to
exhaust them. While focusing on their jobs, they begin to forget to look after
themselves or feel as though taking some time out for themselves in a selfish or
undisciplined act, also known as the “grind” mindset. Through this project, I hope
to be able to help them find the best way to break out of that mindset and find
catharsis.

The secondary audience is also appropriate since they seek to understand the
logic behind the grind mindset and why so many workers fall prey to it, in order to
form better policies or provide more specific counselling involving overwork and
encourage the workers to take breaks. Parents who aren’t primary caregivers are
given the opportunity to understand how to help the ones who are, so that they
can also have some respite from their constant responsibility. Although regular
office workers do not face the constant stressor of feeling inadequate from
staying home, they face other stressors at work and can also sometimes feel like
sacrificing well-earned leisure time to squeeze in a little more productivity.
