–. Engineers are important in society because they help to solve difficult problems

better, such as sustainable buildings, advanced medical devices, and improved
communication networks. Engineers work in different areas like civil, mechanical,
electrical, and computer engineering, and their impact reaches many parts of our
world. They play a big role in shaping our societies, dealing with the challenges we
have in society, and always trying to make life better for people and the
communities.
 2. What are expected of engineers in general?
–. Engineers are expected to have a lot of knowledge about science and math. They
use this knowledge to come up with creative solutions for real-world problems. Its
also important for them to communicate well, especially when working in teams, and
they have to explain complicated ideas to different people. Being ethical is also a
very essential for engineers—they have to focus on safety, sustainability, and being
socially responsible in their projects. Engineers always have to keep learning
because technology is always changing. Staying up-to-date helps them tackle new
challenges and make meaningful contributions in their areas of expertise.
 3. In what current concerns are engineering outputs needed?
–. Engineers are really important for many things happening currently in our society.
They make sure things like buildings and bridges are safe. They also make
technology better, like phones and computers. Engineers do a lot to help the
environment, finding ways to use energy wisely and reduce pollution. Currently,
they're working on solving issues like clean water access, renewable energy, and
creating smart solutions for cities. So, what engineers do is very important for
dealing with today's problems, improving things, and making sure our future is safe
and sustainable.

 4. In what areas are engineers currently involved?


–. Engineers are involved in various areas right now, using their skills to make the
world better. Some, like environmental engineers, are finding sustainable solutions
for climate problems. Mechanical engineers makes and improve machines, while
electrical engineers focus on electronics and power. Civil engineers are very
important for building things like roads, and computer engineers come up with cool
tech ideas. Biomedical engineers work on making healthcare better.
 5. How many organizations be classified according to the engineering jobs
performed?
–. Engineering jobs can be classified into different types of organization or

buildings and bridges. Others, like manufacturing companies, have engineers who

software and hardware. Even government agencies have engineers for public
projects. The categories are big, wide and cover lots of areas, showing how
engineers can do many different things to tackle various challenges and
opportunities.

 6. Which organization level requires the highest management skills for engineering
managers?
–. Top-level engineering managers need the best management skills in the
organization. They make big decisions, set long-term goals, and make sure the
engineering department runs well. These leaders must be good at leading,
communicating, and solving problems to guide their teams and make sure
engineering efforts fits with the organization's goals. They handle complicated
projects, manage budgets, and encourage new ideas. Basically, top-level
engineering managers are very important in making sure the engineering
department succeeds in the larger picture of the organization.

 7. What is engineering management?


–. Engineering management means overseeing engineering projects and leading
teams to get things done efficiently and meet organizational goals. It's a mix of skills
in leadership and in business skills. Engineering managers lead and guide engineers
to finish projects on time and within budget. They connect engineering with business
by making smart decisions, managing resources, and encouraging new ideas. Good
communication and problem-solving are key in this job. Engineering management
works to make engineering processes better, ensure project success, and help the
organization succeed.

 8. How may one define management?


–. Management is the process of planning, organizing, directing, and controlling
resources, including people and activities, to achieve specific goals within an
organization. It means coordinating efforts, making decisions, and using resources
efficiently to meet objectives. Managers lead teams, solve problems, and aim for
desired outcomes.
 9. What qualification must an engineer manager have?
–. An engineering manager usually needs a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a
related field, with a lot of work experience. Some would pursue advanced degrees
like a master’s in engineering management to enhance their qualifications. Strong
leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential for success in
this role.

 10.How may one become a successful engineer manager?


–. To be a successful engineering manager, you need to have a combination of
quality education, experience, and skills. Starting with a good education in
engineering and then get a hands-on experience in jobs related to engineering.
Work on leadership and communication skills, and understand project management.
Face challenges, learn from experiences, and keep updating your skills for the
changing industry. Building a strong professional network and staying updated on
industry trends help you succeed in engineering management for the long term.

 1. Can the engineer manager avoid making management decision? Why or why
not?
–. The manager of engineers have a crucial role in making decisions for effective
management. So decision-making is important since it guides the actions of the
organization. And without it, progress will not go forward, affecting the team’s
direction and productivity. Management decision is a natural part for the role of
engineer manager.

 2. When a problem becomes apparent and the engineer manager chooses to ignore
it, is he making a decision? Explain your answer.
–. When the engineer manager chooses to ignore a problem, they are making a
decision. Ignoring a problem might seem nothing, but it has a big impact, affecting
the situation and possibly can causes problems. This decision, even if it's not
obvious, can have bas consequences.

 3. Why is proper diagnosis of the problem important?


–. Proper diagnosis is very important. It helps us to know where the issue or
problems is coming from. It means that you can focus on fixing the main problem
instead of just dealing with the effects. If you don’t take a time to understand the
problem well, the solutions might not really get to the center of what’s going on
underneath.

 4. What are the components of the environment from the point of view of the
decision-maker? What do they consist of?
–. From the decision-maker’s point of view, the components of the environment are
divided into two main kind: internal and external environments. The internal
environment includes things like organizational activities, employees, and resources
that affect the decision-making. On the other hand, the external environment
involves variables outside the organization, such as market conditions, regulations,
and economic trends, which are usually beyond the immediate control of top
management in the short run.

 5. How may one develop viable alternative in problem solving?


–. Developing viable alternatives when solving a problem is a complex process. You
need to be creative and have to understand what the problem is about. Making
many different solutions helps look at all the possibilities, making it more likely to find
a good and efficient solution
 6. How may alternative solutions be evaluated?
–. To Evaluate alternative solutions, you have to look at different factors. Factors like
feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and impact on stakeholders are essential factors.
Doing this helps make sure the solution fits with the organization’s goals and
resources.

 7. Why is it important for those who will be involved in implementation to understand


and accept the solution to the problem?

–. It's very important for the people who will involved to understand and agree with
the solution to a problem. If everyone doesn't agree, it will make the working hard.
When people understand and agree with one solution, they can better work together
for the same goal. Agreeing means they're committed, making it easier to do the
solution without problems.

 8. What are the approaches in solving problems?


–. Solving problems has different ways depending on what's going on. Analytical
methods use data and careful analysis. Creative approaches involve thinking in new
and innovative ways. Intuitive approaches come from experience and instincts.
Using a mix of these methods helps engineers handle lots of different challenges
well.

 9. What quantitative techniques are useful in decision making?


–. Quantitative techniques are very important in decision-making. It gives a real data
for analysis. Examples of this are Cost-benefit analysis and Statistical Methods.
Cost-benefit analysis assesses the money impact of decisions. Statistical methods
help understand the probabilities and trends. These techniques make decisions
more objective, helping engineers make smart choices based on actual evidence
instead of personal opinions.

 10.What is the purpose of Bayesian analysis?


–. Bayesian analysis is used to handle uncertainty in decision-making by changing
strategies based on new information. It means updating the chance estimates with
new info. Basically, it’s about reviewing and changing initial guesses of event
probabilities, using extra info to make things work better over time in changing
situations.
