DID YOU READ THE BOOK?

By Winsome Wayne S. Esteban

Teacher II, Calintaan National High School

He opens book, takes a closer look

Swarming butterflies, pure excitement in disguise

A golden trophy to be won or a mediocre trial reckoned?

Nevertheless, choices at the gate

Beaming visions of gold, delineating fate

He read “I” aloud, a thunderous crack profound

It’s stone cold, no one is bold

Dark clouds of silence descending, everybody thinks the world is ending

Nevertheless, he heard a tick

Rising voices, it’s the meek!

He read ‘They’ with a smile in dismay

The ground rippled and shook, abruptly he closed the book

Clouds are rolling in, blurry views are thin

What did not he read right?

Nevertheless, he needs to fight!

He read ‘We’, made sure it’s not ‘me’

Colors burst and waved, new avenues started to pave

Indeed, it’s a diverse world, a generation of powerful swords

Finally, he is getting there

But surely, the story isn’t over!

A flame could make it in a world dimly lit

But ‘We’ need to push the woods as far as we could

Fan the flame and make it creep, until we reap what we sow in deep

Nevertheless, he closed the book

Creating a world, unimaginable in a closer look.
