PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS, AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

This chapter deals with the gathered data that were analyzed and interpreted for

the better understanding of the study. The framework of the analysis and interpretation

was guided by the problems stated in chapter 1.

1. Harmful Effects of Consuming Large Amount of caffeine to the Health of Selected

students in terms of Mental, Physical and Social Health

4. I experience anxiety whenever my 5 Very Positive 1

body take more than 400g of

caffeine.

5. When my body take more than 4.23 Very Positive 4

400mg of caffeine, I think too much

and experience restlessness.

Overall Weighted Mean 4.16 Very Positive

Table 1 shows the Harmful Effects of Caffeine to the Mental Health of Selected

Students, indicator 4 which states that I experience anxiety whenever my body take

more than 400g of caffeine had obtained a weighted mean of 5 and interpreted as very

positive and ranked 1 respectively. Indicator 2 states that “I feel confused whenever I

take too much caffeine” had obtained a weighted mean of 4.53, interpreted as very

positive and ranked as second. The third indicator had obtained a weighted mean of

4.37 ranked as third which states that when I drink high doses of coffee, I experience

jitteriness and interpreted as very positive. Indicator 5, gained a weighted mean of 4.23,

ranked 4, and interpreted very positive stated that when my body take more than 400mg

of caffeine, I think too much and experience restlessness. Indicator 1 ranked as 5 which

stated that when I take too much of caffeine it makes my mind unalert obtained a

weighted mean of 2.67 and interpreted as neutral respectively.

When considering all these indicators together, the overall weighted mean is 4.16,

indicated as very positive this means that consuming high amount of caffeine have

harmful effects in the mental health of selected students it conclude that the students

experience confusion, anxiety, jitteriness, thinking too much and experience

restlessness whenever their body take too much caffeine.

Ferre 2019 stated that even though moderate to low levels of caffeine can make an

individual more alert in more significant amounts, the effect is more potent, resulting in
caffeine-induced anxiety. Winston et al. (2018) said that most people experience

anxiety, jitteriness, and similar symptoms when they consume caffeine in extremely high

doses

According to Spiller 2016 Caffeine is a psychoactive stimulant that works with the

central nervous system. It is also a bitter, white crystalline xanthine alkaloid that is a

psychoactive stimulant drug. White crystalline xanthine alkaloid is a white powdery

substance. Since caffeine is a stimulant. According to Nehlig 2019, low doses of

caffeine enhance working memory performance, while higher doses were found to

decrease it, possibly due to over-stimulation.

4. Whenever I consume high doses of 4.63 Very Positive 1

coffee, I experience palpitations

5. I experience headache after taking 4.2 Very Positive 3

high doses of caffeine.

Overall Weighted Mean 3.73 Positive

Table 1.2 shows the harmful effects of consuming large amount of caffeine to the

physical health of selected students, several indicators were considered. Indicator 4

revealed that whenever I consume high doses of coffee, I experience palpitations

ranked as 1 and interpreted very positive with weighted mean of 4.63. Indicator 3

claimed that ranked consuming more than 400mg of caffeine makes me dehydrated as

2 and interpreted very positive with a weighted mean of 4.47. The indicator 5 which

stated that students experience headache after taking high doses of caffeine gained a

weighted mean of 4.2 ranked 3 and interpreted very positive respectively. While the
second indicator revealed that I am troubling to sleep after my body take more than

400mg of caffeine gained a weighted mean of 2.67 and interpreted as neutral. The first

indicator ranked 5 stated that whenever they drink high doses of coffee they experience

trembling obtained a weighted mean of 2.7 and interpreted as neutral.

Considering all these indicators together, the overall weighted mean is 3.73, interpreted

as positive this means that consuming high amount of caffeine have harmful effects to

the physical health of students. The results proves that caffeine positively effects the

health of students in terms of physical health.

McWilliam 2020 stated that one positive effect of caffeine on students is a

temporary increase in alertness, allowing students to retain focus while they study.

Caffeine works in your brain by blocking the function of a chemical called adenosine.

Adenosine in the brain acts as a depressant and induces drowsiness when it binds to

receptors on brain cells. This binding induces drowsiness and fatigue, leading to a

decrease in mental clarity. Since caffeine prevents the binding of adenosine to its

receptor, caffeine intake increases a feeling of mental alertness. As a result, caffeine

ingestion can provide a temporary boost to your study skills as a student. A

negative effect of caffeine on students is that it promotes irregular sleeping

patterns. Caffeine taken before bed can inhibit your ability to fall asleep, as well

as diminish the quality of the sleep you do manage to get.

Overall Weighted Mean 3.91 Positive

Table 1.3 shows the harmful effects of consuming large amount of caffeine to the

health of students in terms of social health. Indicator 5 ranked as 1 which stated that

whenever their body take high amount of caffeine they don’t have an energy to interact

with others obtained a weighted mean of 4.47 and interpreted as very positive. Indicator

4 involves being irritated talking to others after consuming high amount of caffeine
gained a weighted mean of 4.33 interpreted very positive and ranked as 2. An indicator

3 with a weighted mean of 4.2 ranked as 3 stated that students feel lack of emotional

interaction after frequently drinking coffee, this interpreted as very positive. Indicator 2

ranked as 4, with weighted mean of 3.43 stated that I feel lonely being with other people

after frequently drinking coffee interpreted as neutral, indicator 1 ranked 5 stated that

high amount of caffeine makes me not interested to support people around me

interpreted as neutral respectively.

Considering all these indicator together, the overall weighted mean is 3.91 interpreted

as positive this proves that consuming large amount of caffeine have harmful effects to

the health of students in terms of social health.
