Personal Statement

I am Mr. Derry Saye-Dah Duokie, a 2012 graduate of the United Methodist University, where I
earned a Bachelor and an Associate degree in general nursing with 10 years of working experience both
in the areas of curative and privatives services. I have been professionally involved in humanitarian works
in the fields of Public health as well as managerial work; I am tasks focus, oriented at meeting goals
individually, rigorous and timely management in delivery demands and reports. I have shown accredited
responsibility to my duties as assigned, proven participatory management skills; appreciation of cultural
diversity; Flexibility, adaptability, ability to travel and live in rural, remote areas. I have ability to manage
and coordinate community health program, Strong organizational, diplomacy. I have demonstrated
excellent Community Engagement and communication skills, Motivate and dedicate coworkers with
excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills, working effectively with interdisciplinary team to
provide complete patient care.

As a young Liberian health care professional with over 10 years of practical experience, I am very
passionate about contributing to improving the health care system of Liberia through provision of services
to ensure better health care delivery to the people of Liberia. With my strong educational background and
extensive experience in the health care sector of Liberia, I believe that I’m one of the appropriate
candidates for any health and health related opportunity that will enable me contribute to the development
of the sector especially as a public servant. With reference to my working experience, I have worked
with the Ganta United Methodist Hospital as a staff Nurse where I was involved in admitting, treating and
discharging both medical and surgical patients. I have also worked in various capacities from screener,
Officer in Charge, District Health officer, Clinical Supervisor, Community Health Services Department
Director, Coordinator at the County level and currently serving as an Assistant Director for the
Community Services Division at the central Ministry of health Republic of Liberia. For my past working
experience, I have overtime received excellent feedback from my supervisors and employers which
proved my strong commitment to perform responsibilities assigned me in professional and effective
manners. I am a team player but also work comfortably on my own and I’m goal oriented. I am also an
excellent communicator. I also have international experience as I have attended and represented Liberia at
a strengthening Of Community Health System for Infectious Diseases Control (A) JFY2018, Japanese
International Cooperation Agency (JICA),
CA Knowledge Co-Creation Program Okinawa Province in Japan, sponsored by the Japanese
Government through JICA. I look at this opportunity as a significant advancement in my career and
believe that working as a government employee, will be a perfect opportunity to enable me maximize my
full potential and utilize my skills and knowledge gained from the study academic and work experience

I am a Liberian by birth, married with 4 children and 5 dependents.


My career plan is to conduct a home base research on the contribution of the Community Health

Assistants program contribution in the reduction of Malaria cases (incident), through the

Integrated Community case management model. I intend to do this research using Liberia

context. If I will be successful to complete this study upon my returned to Liberia I intend to pass

on the skill acquire to my colleagues with whom I work with at the same time served as a

resource person for the MOH.
