Answer all the questions.
Instructions: 1. Answer FIVE full questions, using the given internal choices. 2. Missing data, if any, may be suitably assumed.

1) Explain some of the milestones in the Indian space programme. (7)

a)
b) Explain Kepler's laws of planetary motion. A satellite is moving in an elliptical orbit with its semi (8)
major axis and semi minor axis as a and b respectively, and an eccentricity of 0.6. The satellite
takes 3 hrs to move from point B to point A. How much time will it take to move from point A to point
B?
c) An earth station is located at 30◦ west longitude and 60 ◦North latitude. Determine the earth (5)
station's Azimuth and elevation with respect to a geostationary satellite located at 50◦ West
longitude. The orbital radius is 42,164 km.(Assume the radius of the earth to be 6378 km).
2) Draw the structure of a satellite and list the functions of the various subsytstems of the satellite. (10)

a)
b) Prove that T=gmIsp/F which is an expression for operation time in propulsion subsystem of a (6)
satellite. Explain the two types of satellite stabilization techniques.
c) The received signal strength in a certain horizontally polarized antenna is 20 db when receiving a (4)
right handed circularly polarized electromagnetic wave. Comput the received signal strength when:
a) The incident wave is horizontally polarized
b) The incident wave is vertically polarized
c) The incident wave is left hand circularly polarized
The received wave polarization makes an angle of 60◦ with the horizontal.
[OR] Explain the Altitude and orbit control system of satellite. (10)
