SOCIALIZING PRACTICE – ROLE PLAY (pair work)

Objective: Meet a New Business Partner

Script a dialogue for a welcome scene which would be typical in your workplace. After
you have scripted it, record the dialogue and upload both, the recording and the script,
to the online learning platform (MooVi, Assignment nº 2).

Scenario:

The situation is a semi-formal business meeting in your country. A host receives a visitor
from abroad. Take turns to play host and visitor. Before you start, decide which country
each of you is from and in which country you are meeting. You can use real personal
information or invent new identities.

1. Act out the greetings and introductions (see handouts 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, etc.) and
make some general conversation (small talk). You don’t have to discuss any
business matters but try to learn something about the person you’ve just met
(see handouts 2.1.1, 2.1.2 and 2.1.3).
2. The host suggests a meal in a well-known restaurant. The visitor accepts with
pleasure. The host suggests he/she will meet him/her at the hotel at 8.30 pm
(see handout 2.4).
3. Act out a dialogue having a meal in a restaurant, as in the restaurant dialogues
(handout 2.5).
