ASSIGNMENT FOR MODULE 1 LESSON 3

FORENSIC3/L

QUESTION:
1. What is the importance of studying the Bloodstain Pattern?

The importance of studying the Bloodstain pattern analysis (BPA) involves

the study and analysis of bloodstains. In forensic work, bloodstain pattern
analysis can help investigators find out more about certain aspects of
previous events that took place at a place that is known or suspected of
being linked to a crime in a significant way.

2. How will you determine the directionality of Bloodstains? Discuss

briefly.

By looking at the bloodstains the cast-off patterns can determine the

direction in which the weapon was swung and the speed. In these cases,
the length and the shape of the blood stain patterns can help determine the
speed at which the object was swung. The direction of travel and the angle
of impact are referred to as the directionality of a bloodstain pattern. The
directionality of a bloodstain will be used for reconstructing where the
bloodshed occurred. The shape of the bloodstain will tell the direction the
blood traveled to hit. the surface. A circular stain probably dropped straight
down or perpendicular to. the surface. Blood drops in a tear drop shape
with a tail have likely fallen at. a different angle. The tail points in the
direction of travel.
