Solution:

Find the change in length,

ΔL=PL/AE =(30x103N)( 4000mm)/( 30mmx20mm)(2x105)= 1mm

In linear strain,

Lateral strain,

0.3= ɛ t /0.00025

force of 250kN. Determine the decrease in the lateral dimension due to this load
consider E= 200 GPA & µ=0.3

Solution: µ= ɛlateral/ɛlongation

δ=PL/AE -> ɛ=P/AE

ɛ long= 5x10-4

hence; µ= ɛlateral/ɛlongation = µ= Δt /t/ ɛ long

Bearing plate stress; t=P/Sd

20x103N-m=[π(0.07)4/32]*100x109N/m2* θ/1

Solution:
θ=SL/RG
θ=4(π/180)=( 6x106 N/mm2)(5000mm)/R(83 GPA->83x109 N/mm2)
R=51.8mm

Then, d=2R
d=2(51.8mm)
d= 103.6mm
2. A shaft is made from tube 25 mm outer diameter and inner diameter.
The stress must not exceed 150 MPA. Calculate the maximum power
that should be transmitted at 500 rpm.

Given: D=25mm, d= 20mm, S= 150 MPA
