... Further, it is interesting to note that the

flood affected regions are not uniformly
distributed over the entire basin bur are
localized to certain pockets (GFCC, 1991),
which points to the control of
geomorphological factors on flood hazard.
On the basis of the gravity data, seismic
surveys and deep drilling data from, some
basement faults transverse to the
Himalayan faults have been demarcated in
the Gangetic Plains by various workers
(Sastri, et al. 1971; Rao, 1973; Karunakaran
and Rao, 1976; Valdiya, 1976; Agrawal,
1977; Dasgupta, et al., 1987; Dasgupta,
1993, GSI, 2000). In the north Bihar region,
the important faults are Sitamarhi Fault
(SF), West Patna Fault (WPF), East Patna
Fault (EPF) and the Monghyr-Saharsa
Ridge Fault (MSRF) (Fig. 1). ...

... The Quaternary deposits in South Ganga

Plain lie unconformably over northerly
sloping basement (Bose et al. 1976).
Seismic refraction study has established
that the thickness of the sediments varies
from few meters near Precambrian
exposures to ∼1,000 m near Sone–Ganga
confluence ( Agrawal 1977 ). The
Quaternary sequence of the Middle Ganga
Plain is conveniently sub-divided into Older
Alluvium (Pleistocene age) and Newer
Alluvium (Holocene age; Acharya 2005). ...

Comparison of Arabian plate motion using satellite laser ranging and GPS observations
December 2013

Abdulaziz Alothman · S. Schillak · Rui Fernandes

Two different space based observations have been used to estimate the velocity of the Arabian plate motion. The first set of
observations is using the Saudi Arabia Laser Ranging Observatory (SALRO - 7832), which is situated in the middle of Arabian tectonic
plate. Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) observations of about 20 global SLR stations to LAGEOS-1 and LAGEOS-2 satellites collected
for 14 years ... [Show full abstract]

Morphostructural nodes - specific mosaic structures, formed at the intersections of morphostructural lineaments, are extreme
manifestations of recent block activity in mountain areas. The existence of a structurally and dynamically analogous node on the
Russian Plain, an old platform with a consolidated Precambrian basement is demonstrated in this paper. Criteria which had been
found for ... [Show full abstract]

The Tasman Front represents a thermal boundary across the north Tasman Sea located between 31°S and 35°S over the Tasman Sea
Ridge System in the south-west Pacific. Census data of planktic foraminiferal assemblages and oxygen isotopic variations of planktic
and benthic foraminifera obtained from three DSDP sites (284, 590A and 588) were used to investigate the Pliocene history of the

Are the oroclines of the Variscan belt related to late Variscan strike-slip tectonics?

May 2011 · Terra Nova

J.R. Martínez Catalán

Terra Nova, 23, 241–247, 2011 Abstract Early Variscan structures and magnetic anomalies delineate four oroclines along the Variscan
belt. The arcs bend the lithostratigraphic zones of the autochthon and the allochthonous terranes, which include ophiolites of the Rheic
suture and units of Gondwanan derivation subducted on both sides of the Rheic Ocean. A transcurrent model dominated by ... [Show
