Let us revise Rectangle, Square, Circle and Triangle.

Rectangle, Square, Circle and Triangle are closed figures. This year we
will learn more closed figures.

Can we describe a closed figure as follows?

If a mouse gets trapped, it cannot come out. We have to break the


shape for the mouse to come out.
LINE SEGMENT TRIANGLE AND OTHER SHAPES
Examples of Line Segment: A triangle is made of 3-line segments. A traingle can be made with equal
and unequal line segments. These line segments have special name,
“sides”. So, we say a triangle is a closed figure with three sides.

A rectangle, a triangle and a square are made from line segments.


Some line segments may be longer, or some line segments may be shorter.

Q. Circle the longer line segment.


A closed figure with four sides is a quadrilateral.

Take some matchsticks. Each matchstick represents a line segment.


All of them, are equal in size. They are of the same length. A rectangle and a square are special quadrilaterals.
Let us make a triangle, square and a rectangle using matchsticks
A rectangle has only opposite sides equal. The corners are also special.

If in a rectangle, all sides are equal, then we call it a “Square”. A closed figure with six sides is a “Hexagon”.

ONE DIGIT NUMBER Rule of a ten
Count the objects and write the numeral for it. What we do when we have ten items?
We make a bundle and call it a ten.

Game
Teachers will cut 100 square pieces of chart paper. She will write one two
digit number on each card, ensuring all numbers from 1 to 100 are written
on the card. These cards can be laminates so that one can use them
multiple items for the game. The teacher will make two such sets.

Draw two big rectangles on the floor. Spread one set of cards randomly in
one rectangle. Similarly, The other in the other rectangle. The numbers will
be visible on all cards.

Students will be divided into two groups. One group will spread themselves
in one rectangle and the other group in other rectangle.

When the game starts, any one student closer to number “1” should go and
stand next to the number and say “1” loudly. Similar thing to be done for “2”
immediately and should be continued for further numbers. The group that
completes the counting upto 100 first will be the winner.

“I was that old man. God had puished me because I was not
caring for the people in our kingdom. God had changed
me to an old man and made me live with old people.
I was supposed to become a prince after my marriage.
So, now I am back as a prince”.

He completed counting the second hundred. He continued and filled two


more grids. Still huge number of buttons were lying in the floor. The tailor
continued counting.”
Both went to the king and the queen. Everybody was happy.

The prince said the tailor wrote the numbers 1 to 100 so many times that he
learnt them well. Practising regularly will help.

He took the princess to his kingdom.
