Weddings & Events

Here is a little information on what we can offer if you would like to celebrate
your special day with us at Peponi Hotel.

You can choose to hold your ceremony with us on the hotel grounds or choose one of the
many lovely locations Shela has to offer but we do recommend that you have the ceremony in
the cool of the afternoon. This allows your guest to spend the morning at their leisure and
have lunch.
We can then arrange a lovely dinner and dancing at the hotel.
We can also share ideas of what can be done in Lamu around the celebration. Of course
each event is unique and must be tailored to your needs these guidelines will give you an idea
of what’s possible.

We transform our Palm Garden into a stunning event space, overlooking the beach where
you can dine and dance under the stars, or if need be a tent can be set up.

This space can host up to 60 people. We also have the pool as well as the Jahazi Bar and Grill
for smaller events.

Accommodation
As we are a small hotel we have a limit of 9 rooms that can be booked for weddings and events
with a 3 night minimum.
For weddings held in the Palm Garden we require you to book out the entire
Palm Garden which consist of 8 standard rooms.
COSTS
We have put together a breakdown to give you an idea of the costs involved, please bare in mind
the cost is an estimation and can be finalised once we discuss how you would like the space
decorated and what you would like for your feast.

Event Set Up
The venue set up, lighting, local floral & table displays can be done by us and is included in the
set up fee. We have speakers which can be used for your music. Should you require a DJ or band
that would be an extra cost. Also, if you have specific flowers or decorations in mind, you should
let us know as these would have to be ordered from Nairobi a few days prior, at an extra cost.

MEALS
Peponi’s creative team of chefs are able to create something entirely bespoke for you.
You receive one on one attention to select a menu that is unique to your needs, and we’re always
open to trying something new and fun.
Providing you with security that we will take care of the rest!

DRINKS
Welcome guests with our house cocktail the 'Old Pal’ for which we are famed or a cocktail of
your choice
Beer, Wine, Bubbles, Juices, Peponi still water.
THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND
Yellow fever certifcate & Travel Insurance:
Usually included in your medical aid but please check that you are covered.

Flying Doctor Cover: Out of an abundance of caution and for maximum peace of mind,
in addition to regular travel insurance, we recommend that guests get short-term membership to
AMREF Flying Doctor Service, a Nairobi-based medical air evacuation service which most
lodges/tour operators in Kenya recommend for their guests.
30-day cover costs just $25 and registration is done online at on the Flying Doctors Website

Wine/spirits: If you are staying for a while and enjoy alcoholic beverages outside of the event, it is
worth checking a bottle or two in your luggage or picking up your favourites at duty free, as avail-
ability and value for money once in Lamu can vary.

Aside from hotels, most of Lamu operates on a cash basis. There is no ATM in Shela and a few
along the waterfront stretch of Lamu old town.
Your easiest solution here might be to draw some cash at Nairobi airport.

Food shops are scarce, so it is often easiest to source things via your house or hotel staff.
They should be able to source what you need from Lamu town and provide you with receipts
Lamu has a signifcant Muslim population, and so out of respect it is good practice for women to
cover their shoulders and knees and maintain modesty while walking through Shela village
