Course title: Introduction to Computer and Application Software

Course Description The course will introduce the basic concepts and skills of Microsoft
applications usage and analysis using appropriate spread sheets, statistical software packages. It
enables students to develop insight on their knowledge and skills especially on how to use
Microsoft applications, questionnaire development, data entry, export, editing, cleaning,
processing, analysis, interpretation of the outputs of the analysis.
Learning outcomes: by the end of the course, students will be able:

1. Use MS word to write, format and save documents


2. Identify the different windows in SPSS
3. Use SPSS to:
a. Define variables, enter and manipulate data
b. Manage and analyze data
c. Produce graphs
4. Use EPIData to define questionnaire, check and data entry files
5. Develop a data entry template to enter data using questionnaire file and able to
control the data entry process with the check file
6. Use double data entry verification in EPIdata to minimize data entry errors
7. Use EPI info windows and sample size calculation
