“When I say go:

I want you to turn into your groups and talk about who you think the characters are and what the setting
is how do you know.”

I will then monitor the groups and listen to misconceptions.

I will then say “class, class, class… now I want you to be listening for the problem and how do you know
from your text and maybe who is telling story and if that tells you if its 1st or 3rd person.”

I will then monitor the groups and listen for misconceptions.

“Class, class, class … Listen for the solution of the story. Remember solution do not always end with a
happy ending.”

I will then continue to read until the solution is found.

“Talk in your groups what is the solution and how do you know from your text.”

I will then monitor the groups for any misconceptions.

“Class, class, class…. In your small groups you discussed the characters, the setting and how you knew,
the problem and solution using text evidence, and the point of view if it was 1st or 3rd person and who
was telling the story.”

Now in class I want to see what you know independently.

In order to get an E, you will need to (I will write this on the board)
10:50
To list the characters,
Write the setting with evidence from the text.
Write the problem with evidence from the text.
