Welcome to the Spring Semester of English TP. This course is meant to increase your
proficiency in oral expression and listening comprehension, while applying your skills to practical
situations.

Class Objectives
1. Improve comprehension and oral expression.
2. Practice speaking in the future and past tense.
3. Practice asking and answering questions fully.
4. Review basics in pronunciation.

Evaluations
Your marks from the previous semester will be carried over. We will potentially have two exams.
We will concretely have an exam on the last class (April 15th/April 22nd). We might have an
exam in the third class. Date changes are possible if timetables change. You will be formally
notified of the exam dates both verbally and in writing by the first day of class.

Each exam will test learning objectives applied to real life situations to not only improve your
English, but prepare you to live and work in another country.

Due to university policy, exams in TP English can not be made up or completed another day.
This is even in instances of excused absences with doctor’s notes, etc. Note that this policy
differs from the regular course policy, wherein you may make up a test with a proper and timely
justification. If you have a schedule conflict for an exam, contact me immediately.

Grading
Outlines for how you will be graded will be specific to the assignment. For presentations and
recordings, time duration must be within 20 seconds added or less than specified time
constraints. Points will be deducted from the presentation regardless of the rubric in accordance
to the difference in time. (For example if the presentation is to be two minutes long, and you
present for one, the highest score possible to receive will be 10/20.)

Marks achieved in TP will be incorporated into your overall English grade. If you do not attend
TP, you will likely fail TD.

Attendance/Participation
Attendance will be taken every class. It is required to sign the attendance sheet to be counted
present.

Attending class allows you to practice listening and speaking English. It is recommended for you
to aim to speak in English for at least one activity per class period. Coursework will also directly
prepare you for the evaluations.

I appreciate when you notify me that you will be absent. I will note it, but I will typically not reply
unless you ask me for information in the e-mail.

Homework
There will be two to three homework assignments this semester, usually researching information
before beginning a class activity. Additionally, study and prep work will be required prior to
evaluations. Be sure to check Moodle and email inboxes regularly.

Expectations
1. Please respect others as you want to be respected.
2. If you are more than 10 minutes late to class, you will not be permitted to enter.
3. Desks should be clear aside from notebooks, pencil cases, and a writing implement.
4. Phones should be put away unless used for a class activity. There will be plenty of
opportunities to use phone applications in class.

5. Please refrain from eating in the classroom.

Moodle
Some major documents, such as this syllabus, will be posted on Moodle. Be sure to check the
page and your email often.
