Construction Method Statement: Repainting of External Walls

I. Introduction

This document outlines the method to be employed for the repainting of external walls at BKI
Studio and Single Detached Houses. The purpose is to ensure a systematic and safe execution
of the project, adhering to quality standards and minimizing disruptions to surrounding areas.

II. Scope of Work

The scope of work includes surface preparation, application of paint, safety measures, and
cleanup procedures.

III. Health and Safety

1. Prior to commencement, a comprehensive risk assessment will be conducted, identifying
potential hazards and implementing appropriate control measures.
2. All personnel involved in the project will be provided with appropriate personal protective
equipment (PPE) including gloves, safety goggles, and masks.
3. Adequate signage and barriers will be erected to ensure the safety of workers and the public.
4. Access to the work area will be restricted, and appropriate warning signs will be displayed.
5. Regular toolbox talks will be conducted to reinforce safety protocols.

IV. Preparatory Works

1. Inspection of the external walls will be carried out to identify any structural issues, cracks, or
surface defects.
2. Surfaces will be cleaned using high-pressure water jets to remove dirt, grime, and loose paint.
3. Any cracks or defects will be repaired using suitable filler materials and allowed to dry completely
before proceeding to the next step.
4. Surrounding areas, windows, doors, and other surfaces not intended for painting will be
adequately covered and protected using masking tape and plastic sheets.

V. Surface Preparation
1. All surfaces to be painted will be thoroughly inspected for adhesion and compatibility with the
chosen paint.
2. Loose or flaking paint will be removed using scrapers or wire brushes.
3. Any mold or mildew present will be treated with appropriate fungicidal solutions and allowed to
dry.
4. The surface will then be sanded to ensure a smooth finish and promote better adhesion of the
new paint.
5. Dust and debris will be removed using brushes and vacuum cleaners.
VI. Application of Paint
1. A suitable primer will be applied to the prepared surface to enhance adhesion and provide a
uniform base for the topcoat.
2. The paint will be applied using brushes, rollers, or spray equipment, depending on the size and
complexity of the surface.
3. Multiple coats may be applied as per manufacturer's recommendations, ensuring proper drying
time between each coat.
4. Care will be taken to achieve an even coverage and avoid drips or runs.
5. Quality control checks will be conducted throughout the painting process to ensure compliance
with specifications.
