Welcome to TLE – Grade 6 Self-Learning Module (SLM) on Selling Products Based


on Needs and Demands in School and Community.

This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by educators both
from public and private institutions to assist you, the teacher or facilitator in helping the
learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum while overcoming their personal,
social, and economic constraints in schooling.

This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st century skills while taking into consideration their needs and
circumstances.

What is It

To become an ideal entrepreneur, you must understand that buying and selling
products or services are based on needs, wants, and demands of the consumers.

Study the meaning of each word below.

Product- is something that is manufactured following a process or grown and


nurtured to be sold for a profit.

Needs- are the necessity of people such as food, clothing, and shelter. People
cannot survive without them.

Wants- are goods or services that people desire or wish to have. People can still live
without these products or services.

Demands- are a step of wants. It is the amount of interest to a given product that
consumers are willing to buy at a given price, at a given period.

Service- is a facility supplying a public or market demand. Some examples are hair
salons offering hair care; bus companies offering transport services etc.

Selling of Products Based on Needs and Demands in the School and the
Community

Sellers could offer products in the school and the community based on existing
needs and demands.

Examples include the following:

1. Bottled water is one of the most in-demand products in school and community
that can provide a solution to a need.

2. Used clothing commonly known as ukay-ukay business offers imported products
and sometimes overruns sold at a lower price.

3. Street food such as fishballs, siomai, and assorted kakanin can be sold the whole
day and are offered at a lower price.

4. Baked products such as pandesal, ensaymada, loaf bread, cakes, and other
pastries are equally salable.

5. Assorted fruits such as banana, green mango, pineapple, and watermelon are
appealing as well.

6. Different designs of flowerpots are available for selling that most adults like.
