POTENTIAL & OPPORTUNITIES IN AGRICULTURE SECTOR

Pakistan has vast cropped land, untapped culturable wastelands and rangelands ,
carrying a huge potential of supporting diversified crops and livestock. Pakistan
welcomes investors to modernize its agriculture through corporate farming.

CLIMATE
Pakistan is blessed with a wide range of climates, from the coastal belt stretching
along the Arabian sea in the south to snow-clad mountains in the north. Most of the
agricultural zones in Pakistan have four seasons (Spring, summer, autumn &
winter) enabling a great variety of food , feed and fiber crops to be produced
LAND
Pakistan is endowed with a great variety of lands with varied soil types having a
good range and combinations of textures, nutrient and pH levels making it an ideal
country to explore for agricultural production. The world’s famous Basmati Rice
of Pakistan can only be produced in a specific belt of Pakistan that enables
production of unmatched aroma, not found anywhere on the planet.
WATER

Pakistan has a large natural store of water in the form of glaciers on the northern
parts of the country. These great glaciers offer year round water with supply
increasing during summers which allows rivers to flow and the ground water table
to recharge.

Pakistan is endowed with great deserts of Cholistan and Thar. Hydrological

surveys have indicated lakes of water under Cholistan which can be syphoned and
used through High Efficiency Irrigation Systems (HEIS) to produce a wide variety
of high quality crops and fruits. A large variety of fruits and crops are already
growing in the region successfully.
MANPOWER

The region that now constitutes Pakistan has a centuries old tradition of practicing
agriculture. Even today Pakistan is considered an agricultural country. The
manpower accordingly is well acquainted with the soils and regional climates
having both traditional and scientific knowledge.

With time Pakistan’s agricultural scientific base has widened a lot. With an
increasing number of agricultural universities and research facilities, Pakistan is
well equipped to produce its own crop varieties , best suited to its various agro-
climatic zones. Pakistan’s indigenous Non-GMO wheat varieties have a
demonstrated potentials of yielding in excess of 2800 kgs/Acre while exhibiting
appreciable resistance to various diseases including major rusts. Pakistan’s farmers
are yet to benefit from these potentials due to factors including lack of finances to
adopt scientific production technology packages and some supply chain
management issues. Investors with ample finances and modern agricultural
practices can straight away achieve the demonstrated potentials Pakistani
technologies or going for other germplasm options.

Pakistani scientists have both scientific knowledge and capability to produce high
yielding hybrids and varieties of field crops using latest technologies.
