7 Hebrew Words for Praise

1ST WORD OF PRAISE: YADAH

1. Define:
1. Open hand to YHWH or hands to God
2. Word breakdown:
1. yad – in Hebrew means open hand or direction
2. ah – is a reference to YHWH (Jehovah)
2. What is Yadah?
1. Giving God Yadah is surrendering to God
2. Surrendering to God involves 2 things:
1. To give God our circumstances
2. To give God ourselves
3. Bible Example: (First time used: Genesis 29:31–35)
1. “31 When the Lord saw that Leah was unloved, He opened her womb; but Rachel was barren. 32 So Leah
conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Reuben; for she said, “The Lord has surely looked
on my affliction. Now therefore, my husband will love me.”
1. This statement “The Lord has looked on my affliction” – this shows us that she gave God her
circumstance of not having a child
2. 33 Then she conceived again and bore a son, and said, “Because the Lord has heard that I am unloved,
He has therefore given me this son also.” And she called his name Simeon.”
1. She says “the Lord has heard” – another sign that she has been giving God her circumstance
through prayer
3. 34 She conceived again and bore a son, and said, “Now this time my husband will become attached to
me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore his name was called Levi. 35 And she conceived
again and bore a son, and said, “Now I will praise (Yadah) the Lord.” Therefore she called his name
Judah. Then she stopped bearing.”
1. God blessed her four times with a child.. showing her that God heard her circumstances, but it was
on the fourth child (Judah) that she can give God Yadah because she finally gives God herself (not
to Jacob)
1. Teaching us that it is easy to give God our circumstances, and difficult to give God ourselves
4. Conclusion:
1. I challenge you to go through the scriptures and find when Yadah is used, then once you find it write
above it Y.D then ask yourself why is this person giving Yadah.
