things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am
with you always, even to the end of the age.
2 THE COMING OF THE KING
It was Halloween evening, 1938. As the nation’s

3 children were busy dressing up in sheets and
shouting “trick or treat”...
...a science fiction dramatization was taking place

on CBS radio. The drama was so incredibly real
that a million Easterners panicked!
In his resonant, convincing voice, Orson Welles

4 was narrating an adaptation of H. G. Wells, “War
of the Worlds.” And, although four or five times
during the program, it was announced that it was
fictional not real, many people missed these
announcements.
As if actually reporting on the spot, Welles told of

Martian cylinders falling over the country. There
5 were metal monsters as tall as skyscrapers walking
in the cities, belching smoke, and people died like
flies around them.
Welles reported that 7,000 soldiers had been

trampled to death or burned to cinders by Martian
6 heat rays! And all this with sound effects so real it
brought terror to those listening.

Panic ensued.
In Newark, people ran into the streets with wet
towels over their faces for protection, anticipating
7 a gas attack.
In New York, people fled their apartments,
carrying whatever possessions they could.
In Harlem, a man stood terrified at his window,

8 looking for “monsters wading across the Hudson
River.”
In Pittsburgh, a woman grabbed a bottle of poison

and cried, “I’d rather die this way than that.”
Several suicides were reported.
9 In various Eastern cities, people flocked to
churches to pray, thinking it was the end of the
world.
It was not just the uneducated or superstitious

believers in ghosts who were scared out of their
wits that Halloween night. The educated scientists
whose faith in technology was so great that they
believed it possible that an advanced civilization
on Mars might carry out such an invasion, even
10 write “finish” to life on Planet Earth.
Now, eight decades later, we find the man still

concerned with invasion from outer space, still
concerned that flying saucers might come from
outer space and end life on Earth.

But military leaders and scientists warn that if man

continues his arms race, it will not be necessary
for this world to be invaded by Martians.
Earthlings are fully capable of destroying life on
Earth!
11 The nations have arsenals of unthinkable weapons,
deadly beyond all imagining. Time magazine
reports that the Soviet SS-18, the most potent
Soviet intercontinental ballistic missile, is armed
with up to 10 warheads, each 50 times more
powerful than the a bomb dropped on Hiroshima.
Today, any serious science student can read in a

12 major library how to build a nuclear bomb.
And what will the nations do when terrorists use

13 nuclear weapons for blackmail?
As devastating as bombs maybe, a chemical

assault is even more frightening! The Russian
army now includes a chemical warfare contingent
14 of between 80,000 and 100,000 men training at 40
sites in Eastern Europe. In the extreme, it would be
naive to think they would go to all that expense
and training if they did not intend to use it.
At the same time, free and peace-loving America

has become the chief arms merchant to the rest of
15 the world.
While nations plan, pray and negotiate for peace,
they are arming to the teeth!

Is it any wonder that man is exploring space,

16 probing the planets, hoping to find someplace to
escape it all?

Centuries ago, the prophets of the Bible predicted

18 today’s calamitous conditions.
Even more distressing, they tell us that things will

19 get worse before they get better:
Revelation 16:14-16 – For they are spirits of

20 demons, performing signs, which go out to the
kings of the earth and of the whole world...
Revelation 16:14-16 – ...to gather them to the

21 battle of that great day of God Almighty.
Behold, I am coming as a thief...
Revelation 16:14-16 – ...Blessed is he who

22 watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk
naked and they see his shame…

Revelation 16:14-16 – ...And they gathered

23 them together to the place called in Hebrew,
Armageddon.
As one studies this great conflict, it quickly

becomes evident that this is more than just another
war. It is the death knell of the world. A battle to
end all battles! It is the final battle in the great
24 controversy between good and evil between a
loving God and a traitor angel: Satan.
The Prophet Joel gave this description of events

now transpiring on Earth...
Joel 3:9,10,12 – Proclaim this among the

25 nations: Prepare for war! Wake up the mighty
men, let all the men of war draw near...
Joel 3:9,10,12 – ...let them come up... Let the

26 weak say, I am strong... Let the nations be
wakened...
The Bible says that in the last days, the

slumbering, non-Christian nations will be
27 awakened. Today, this is one of the most graphic
, signs of the end of the world.
Napoleon called China “the sleeping giant,”

advising the world to let her sleep, “for when this
giant is awakened,” he said, “her tread will shake
the world.”
28 China has awakened! Already she is a member of
the nuclear club. With a population of one
thousand four hundred million and her finger on
an atomic torch, her tread may well “shake the
world.’’

And Africa, the angry young giant that demanded

freedom, won it for 19 of her countries in five
29 years! No longer can she be ignored as simply a
romantic paradise for wildlife photographers or
hunting safaris.
The Middle East is smoldering! The nuclear clock

is ticking! What madman will push the button, turn
the key, drop the bomb! How will it all end?

These questions can cause sleepless nights for
those who do not understand God’s prophecies.
The Prophet John said that spirits of devils would

gather the whole world to that great battle of God
Almighty. Armageddon is at our door!
Satan himself is the power behind this great battle,

the power behind the three unclean spirits. The
31 devil will use marvelous signs and unbelievable
miracles to maneuver the nations into the last great
conflict.
This battle takes place at the 11th hour of Earth’s

history. Christ, himself, will personally intervene
and take charge of the fight.
Revelation 19:11,14,15 – Now I saw heaven

opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who
32 sat on him was called Faithful and True... And
the armies in heaven...
Revelation 19:11,14,15 – …clothed in fine linen,

33 white and clean, followed Him on white
horses... Now out of His mouth…

Revelation 19:11,14,15 – …goes a sharp sword,

34 that with it He should strike the nations...
At that critical moment, when the conflict is

completely out of control, Christ will ride into
battle with the armies of Heaven. He will call a
35 halt to the affairs of a planet in rebellion.
When Christ comes to Earth the second time, He
will not find an empty planet an Earth whose
inhabitants have slipped off to another planet.
He will not find a planet burned out by nuclear

36 warfare an orbiting a mass of ashes! For the Bible
declares...
2 Peter 3:7 – But the heavens and the earth

37 which are now preserved by the same word...
2 Peter 3:7 - ...reserved for fire until the day of

38 judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
There may be limited nuclear war before Christ

comes, but wars of nations or men will not destroy
39 life on Earth. You can be sure of that because God
Himself executes judgment at the coming of
Christ, for we read in Jude...
Jude 1:14,15 – Behold, the Lord comes with ten

40 thousand of His saints, to execute judgment on
all, to convict all who are ungodly...

At that moment a great separation takes place.
41 Matthew 13:49 – So, it will be at the end of the

age. The angels will come forth, separate the
wicked from among the just.
Both the Just and the unjust will be living on Earth

when Christ returns. Believers and unbelievers.
42 Those who are ready to meet Him and those who
are not.
Riding at the head of the armies of heaven is Jesus,

King of kings and Lord of lords. Coming to put an
43 end to sin and suffering. Coming to usher in the
long promised, everlasting kingdom.
During the closing days of Christ’s ministry on

Earth, He foretold His death to his disciples.
44 Sensing their need for comfort and hope during
those dark hours, He gave this most thrilling
promise...
John 14:1-3 – Let not your heart be troubled;

you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My
45 Father’s house are many mansions; if it were
not so...
John 14:1-3 – ...I would have told you. I go to

46 prepare a place for you. And if I go and
prepare a place for you...
John 14:1-3 – …I will come again and receive

47 you to Myself; that where I am, there you may
be also.

Over the centuries, whenever disappointments,

hardships, and death threatened Christ’s followers,
this star of the hope the promise of His return has
48 given courage and strength to endure.
Jesus’ followers eagerly looked forward to the
fulfillment of this promise.
The apostle Paul, writing from his prison cell, said

49 he was...
Titus 2:13 - Looking for the blessed hope, and

50 the glorious appearing of our great God and
our Saviour Jesus Christ...
Later, as the executioner stood but steps away,

51 Paul triumphantly proclaimed...
2 Timothy 4:7,8 – I have fought the good fight, I

have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
52 Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of
righteousness...
2 Timothy 4:7,8 – ...which the Lord, the

righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day,
53 and not to me only but also to all who have
loved His appearing.

Paul could bravely face the executioner’s sword on

that fateful day because he had faith in Christ’s
promise to return.
As we face the approaching dark hours of Earth’s
54 history, ii will be a great source of strength to
remember that Jesus’ promise to his disciples
belongs to us as well. Jesus will return that
promise the world’s only hope!
All the Old and New Testaments prophets spoke

of and looked forward to the second coming. One
55 out of every 25 verses in the New Testament
directly mentions some aspect of the second
coming and the end of the world.
Jesus went to great lengths to give exact details of

His second coming. He knew Satan would attempt
56 to confuse and mislead people on this subject.
Jesus said that in the last days, we would be
confronted with people claiming to be Christ.
Matthew 24:24 – For false christs and false

57 prophets will rise and show great signs and
wonders to deceive...
If we do not know how to tell the difference or

spot the counterfeit, we might attach ourselves to
an imposter, thinking of him to be Christ. Jesus
warned it could happen!
Jesus was not talking about a few clumsy
58 deceptions. Evidently, He was talking about
incredible impersonations so carefully planned and
executed that almost the whole world would be
deceived! You see, these imposters will work
miracles, heal the sick, and give supernatural
demonstrations to back up their claims.

It is not that we will mistake Christ for a

counterfeit. No one could do that! There will be no
59 question which Christ is when He returns. It is that
we might mistake the counterfeit for Christ that we
might be fooled before Christ appears.
Think for a moment: Suppose you turn on the TV

some evening, and the newscaster reports that
Christ has returned-that. He is in Palm Springs,
healing the sick, performing miracles, speaking
60 words of love and peace, and Christian unity. And
you see thousands flocking to the desert to see
him. Others are kneeling before him and receiving
his blessing.
What would you do?

Hurriedly make a reservation on the next flight to
Palm Springs? Rush out to see him?
61 Bow down and worship him?
If you do not know what the Bible teaches about
Christ’s corning, you might. That is what Jesus
said...
Matthew 24:26 - Therefore if they say to you,

‘Look, He is in the desert!’ do not go out; or
62 ‘Look, He is in the inner rooms!’ do not believe
it.
Jesus warned us not even to see an imposter.

Why? His miracles and charisma might deceive
you. He may teach like Christ. He may heal like
63 Christ. He may sound like Christ. And the
temptation to doubt the Scriptures may be
overwhelming, for Jesus said...
64 Matthew 24:24 - ...if possible, even the elect.

We dare not trust our senses! What we see! What

65 we hear! What we feel! How can we know if it is
an imposter?
The Bible is our only safe guide in making that

decision. So, let us look at a few unmistakable
66 signs or features unique to Christ’s second
coming...
His coming will be a visible coming:
67 Matthew 24:27 – For as the lightning comes

from the east and flashes to the west, so also
will the coming of the Son of Man be.
You will not have to be told when Christ comes;

68 everyone will know about it! In fact, you will see
Him coming.
Revelation 1:7 – Behold, He is coming with

69 clouds, and every eye will see Him...
Every eye shall see Him! The eyes of the old. The
eyes of the young. The eyes of the saint. The eyes
of the sinner. The eyes of weeping, and the eyes of
70 gladness, even the eyes of the blind! Every eye
shall see Him coming. There is nothing regional or
exclusive about His coming. We are even told how
He will come...
Matthew 24:30 – Then the sign of the Son of

71 Man will appear in heaven, and then all the
tribes of the earth will mourn...

Matthew 24:30 – ...and they will see the Son of

72 Man coming on the clouds of heaven with
power and great glory.
Christ is not going to suddenly appear in some

distant city or quietly step out of a flying saucer.
73 He is coming back in the clouds with power and
great glory, and every eye will see it!
What will He be like when He comes the second

time? We need to know. Two angels thought so,
too. After the Lord’s resurrection, He spent some
time with His disciples sharing His final
instructions with them assuring them of His love
and presence with them “even unto the end of the
74 world.”
The time had come for Christ to ascend to His
Father’s throne, and as He stood with hands
outstretched in blessing, He slowly ascended
heavenward. The disciples stood gazing upward,
straining their eyes for the last glimpse of their
Lord...
Acts 1:10,11 – ...two men stood by them in

75 white apparel... who also said, Men of Galilee,
why do you stand gazing up into heaven?
Acts 1:10,11 – ...This same Jesus, who was

76 taken up from you into heaven, will so come in
like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.

The same Jesus! Jesus with flesh and bones. Jesus

with nail prints in his hands and feet. Jesus with a
wound on His side. The same Jesus who talked
walked and prayed with the disciples. The same
77 Jesus who went away in the clouds will return the
same way! That would be difficult for an imposter
to duplicate, don’t you think? But the most
challenging part is yet to come, for the Bible
says...
Matthew 25:31 - When the Son of Man comes

78 in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him...
He is not coming back by himself! When He

comes, He will be accompanied by all the holy
angels filling the skies with glory indescribable!

When just one angel rolled back the stone from
Christ’s tomb, the Roman guards fell in a daze.
And that was the glory of just one angel!
Think of the glory of “ten thousand times ten

thousand, and thousands of thousands” of angels
who will accompany Jesus.
We will know it is an imposter if he doesn’t come
in the clouds of the sky with all the holy angels
and with every eye watching!
80 But there is more! You see, it is easier to spot an
imposter if we are well acquainted with the
genuine, and God was not taking any chances on
not leaving sufficient knowledge for us to tell the
difference. Actually, Satan would have to have the
cooperation of all nature to duplicate Christ’s
coming listen...

Revelation 16:18,20 – And there were noises

and thunderings and lightnings; and there was
81 a great earthquake, such a mighty and great
earthquake...
Revelation 16:18,20 – ...as had not occurred

since men were on the earth... Then every
82 island fled away, and the mountains were not
found.
You cannot keep an earthquake secret at least not

one like that! One that levels all the mountains and
83 causes every island to disappear! But wait, there is
even more!
1 Thessalonians 4:15,16 – For this we say to you

by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive
84 and remain until the coming of the Lord will by
no means precede...
Thessalonians 4:15,16 – ...those who are asleep.

85 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven
with a shout, with the voice of an archangel...
1 Thessalonians 4:15,16 – ...and with the

86 trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will
rise first.

Not only will Christ’s coming to be a visible

coming, but it will also be an audible coming
heard by everyone! So, penetrating will be the call
of God, the fanfare of the trumpet, that the dead in
Christ will be awakened and come forth from their
graves. Do you see how impossible it would be for
Satan to counterfeit the real coming of Christ?
87 Notice also that the text said, “that we who are
alive, will certainly not precede those who have
fallen asleep.” In other words, the living righteous
will not be caught up to meet the Lord before the
righteous dead are resurrected. Now, notice what
happens to the righteous living at Christ’s second
coming...
1 Thessalonians 4:17 – Then we who are alive

88 and remain shall be caught up together with
them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air...
The faithful followers of Jesus are caught up with

the resurrected dead to meet the Lord in the air.
89 What a happy reunion that will be for many
families. Paul tells us that something else is going
to happen when Christ comes:
1 Corinthians 15:51-53 – Behold, I tell you a

mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all
90 be changed in a moment, in the twinkling of an
eye, at the last trumpet...
1 Corinthians 15:51-53 – ...For the trumpet will

91 sound, and the dead will be raised
incorruptible, and we shall be changed...

1 Corinthians 15:51-53 - ...For this corruptible

92 must put on incorruption, and this mortal must
put on immortality.
God will give every follower of Jesus His gift of

love: life everlasting. All other gifts are
93 meaningless without this gift of immortality. But
there is something else that God will give his
people...
Philippians 3:20,21 – For our citizenship is in

heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the
94 Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will
transform...
Philippians 3:20,21 – ...to His glorious body,

95 according to the working by which He is able
even to subdue all things to Himself.
A body like Christ’s! No more aches. No more

pain. No more disease. What news could be more
welcome? You see, God has given so many
distinguishing characteristics of the genuine
coming of Christ that no one needs to be deceived.
The tragedy is that millions will bow down and
worship an imposter or perhaps commit suicide at
the report of a Martian invasion simply because
96 they did not bother to read and remember what the
Bible says about the second coming. Some people
even believe that it really is not important how or
when Christ will come because they think
everyone will be taken to Heaven anyway. But
nothing could be further from the truth. John the
Revelator described the fate of those who have
been deceived...

Revelation 6:14-17 – Then the sky receded as a

scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain
97 and island was moved out of its place. And the
kings of the earth…
Revelation 6:14-17 – ...the great men, the rich

men, the commanders, the mighty men, every
98 slave and every free man, hid themselves in the
caves...
Revelation 6:14-17 – ...and in the rocks of the

mountains, and said to the mountains and
99 rocks, fall on us and hide us from the face of
Him...
Revelation 6:14-17 – ...who sits on the throne

and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great
100 day of His wrath has come, and who is able to
stand?
They are lost, and they know it! What a sad picture
when it could have been so different. Friend, that
day will be real! There will be no waking up to
find it, only an Orson Welles dramatization.
That was a traumatic experience for a million

Americans that Halloween night, thinking fiction
was real. But it is far more dangerous to believe
101 that real is fiction! Treating God’s prophecies,
God’s reality, as fantasy is tampering with your
own destiny.
If we are deceived or not prepared for Christ’s

coming, we lose everything. There will be no
replays no re runs. There is really nothing more
important on Earth than being ready to meet Jesus
when He comes.

How fragile the Earthly treasures we prize so

greatly! One earthquake, one tornado, one nuclear
102 bomb, one doctor’s diagnosis, one threatening
phone call from a stranger in the night, and our
security is shattered.
That is why Paul said:

103 Colossians 3:2 - Set your mind on things above,
not on things on the earth.
Tell me, is there anything more important than

being ready to meet Jesus? Today we can still
decide. Today we can still choose, and, in
choosing Jesus, we are choosing everything that
matters.
Where will you be, and what will you be doing

when Jesus comes?
104 When is all nature in turmoil: the Earth shaking,
mountains, and islands disappearing, cities
toppling? When a small cloud appears on the
horizon, growing in size, getting brighter every
moment, until everyone in the world is aware of
this dazzling object in the skies?
Yes, Friend, the King is coming! Will you be

ready to receive Him as your Saviour and King?
All the shadows of Earth disappear; the glory is

blinding! As He draws nearer the Earth, every eye
beholds Christ: not as a man of sorrows, but as a
mighty conqueror! Not with a crown of thorns, but
105 with a diadem of glory. And with Him the armies
of Heaven, all the holy angels!
No human pen can portray the scene; no mortal
mind is adequate to conceive its splendor...

106 Habakkuk 3:3 - His glory covered the heavens...
Revelation 19:16 – And He has on His robe and

107 on His thigh a name written: King of Kings,
And Lord of Lords.
The clash of arms and the tumult of battle are

stilled. The wicked pray for the rocks to fall on
them rather than look upon the face of Him whom
they have rejected or neglected. A loud shout
pierces the air and a trumpet sound; graves open
and the righteous dead rise out of those graves.
108 The righteous living is caught up together with
them to meet the Lord in the air and are taken to
those mansions Christ promised so long ago.
Could anything be more thrilling, if we are
prepared? Can’t you feel the excitement? You can
be a part of that joyful number who proclaim...
Isaiah 25:9 – Behold, this is our God; We have

109 waited for Him, and He will save us...
Friend, eternal life can be yours for the taking! If

110 you want it enough!
The King is coming, He is coming soon to set up

111 that eternal kingdom. Won’t you choose right now
to meet me in that kingdom?
