Self-concept and its relationship to sincerity at work by school counselors in public
schools in the northern of the West Bank
Abstract:
The aim of this study was to identify self-concept and its relationship to sincerity at work, and
the extent of its vulnerability to demographic variables: gender, qualification, experience and
the level of income of the counselors.
The problem of the study is identified to answer the main question. What degree of self-
concept and its relationship with sincerity at work according to both male and female
counselors in public schools in the northern of the West Bank?
The community of study is formed of all public schools educational counselors in the
Northern West Bank during the academic year 2011/2012 and numbered (317), counselors in
the provinces of the Northern West Bank, but the study sample amounted to (132) male and
female counselors were selected by stratified method.
The researcher used Fitz self-concept scale preparation (1965) and the seriousness scale
prepared by (Maddi & Kobasa) and the researcher confirm the validity and reliability of study
tools.
The results showed the following: there is no statistical significant relationship between self-
concept and sincerity at work, it was found that the degree of self-concept came moderately
(2.48) and the degree of seriousness of the researchers' work came moderately by (3.50), and
this means that sincerity at work does not specifically linked to a variable due to the nature of
the Palestinian environment that contains a lot of variables daily that can directly affect the
seriousness of the work, for example, the lack of a fixed monthly income can reduce the
sincerity at work of the staff, while the sincerity at work doesn't have any relationship with
the same administrative or professional employee.
The results indicate that there are no statistical significant differences on the total score to
measure self-concept in the variable of (gender and qualification, experience and level of
income) the aspects of self-concept got a high degree only in two clauses, either clause (12)
clauses with a moderate degree and (74) low-degree.
The results indicate there are no statistical significant differences on the total score to measure
self-variable (gender and qualification, experience and income level). As for the aspects, the
results show no significant differences for the fields of sincerity at work got the challenge and
change with a ratio of (3.37) and it is a high rate, the commitment aspect and participation
(3.64) with a moderate degree and the aspect of domination and control.)
In light of the results of the study, the researcher recommends:
Further developments of the seriousness of counselors due to their important role in helping
the students.
In addition to develop a system of incentives and rewards in material and moral terms which
can reflect positively on the behavior of workers and their promotion and meet the needs and
aspirations, and holding sessions for counselors in order to strengthen their self-concept, and
help them to understand the current situation, accept it, live with it, and overcome the
difficulties they face, such as leadership, change, and communication courses.
