“Instituting Safe, and Compassionate Caregiving”
Filipinos are known all over the world
for our culture of caring. This “malasakit” as
we Filipinos call it, refer to the value of caring
for others while tending to their needs. It is a
characteristic that seem to be inherent to
Filipinos as we provide a continuous supply of
health workers and domestic helpers abroad.
Due to the increased demand of workers
abroad, more and more Ilocanos are enrolling
in health-related courses such as caregiving as
they consider it as their gateway to a greener
pasture. However, their aspiration and
motivation to work and earn abroad might
impede their ability to develop the”
malasakit” value, as they may now be focused
on reaping the financial benefits of their
profession.
“Misericors Curantis” is a Latin term
that means Compassionate Caregiver. The
program is a solemn symbolic rite of passage
for caregiving students that primarily aims to
create an avenue to remind, reinforce, and
rekindle the value of compassion among
caregiving students, as they will be in charge
of caring for people who will be at the most
vulnerable stages in their lives.
