After his fight for freedom Nelson Mandela wrote a book about his journey to make freedom for

all
races possible. It started he helped to launch the defiance campaign which caused black people to
break some of laws for example people burned there pass books ( a special book that black south
Africans had to carry which contained their photograph, their address and their fingerprints) and
others started going into restricted areas such as “white only” places.

In December 1956,Mandela was arrested along with 155 other people, and they were charged with
treason but fortually, after a long trial they were proved not guilty.

On 12th of June 1964,Madela was found guilty of “planning to take over the government by force".
He was sentenced to life imprisonment.in the late 1980s, the government were put under a lot of
pressure from the south African people to realse Nelson Mandela from prison. They believed a civil
war may break out, so they decided to realise him.(11th February 1990)

After he was realised, he continued to fight for the rights of black and coloured people and was able
to reach an agreement with the government. Nelson Mandela had worked so hard that he won the
Nobel peace prize for his hard work in 1993 and for the first time in his life he was able to vote for
president and by 1994 he won the election and became the first African black president on the 10 th
of May until his retirement on the 14th of June 1999.And lastly nelson Mandela sadly died on the 5th
of December from an illness at the age of 90.
