GUIDECARD 1 Once upon a time, in a language class, the
teacher issued a direct command to the
students, "Complete the assignment by
tomorrow." After the class, Sarah
approached her friend, Ben, and recounted
what the teacher had said. She transformed
the direct command into an indirect
command, saying, "The teacher instructed us
to complete the assignment by the following
day." Ben nodded in understanding,
recognizing the shift from direct to indirect
speech. Together, they practiced more
examples, mastering the art of transforming
commands into reported speech.
