CSR

Lear holds sustainability to a high priority in their company. On their website, it is one of

their main dropdown links and gives customers, investor or whoever would like to read it, a

mission statement about how they believe to be effective in keeping the environment clean. One

part of the statement that stands out is, “Our ‘Three Pillars of Sustainability’ serve as a

foundation for our efforts at work and home that will drive our success in Environmental

Stewardship, Social Responsibility, and Economic Prosperity.” They go on to say that these three

pillars are what molds plan of action to help and sustain the environment. Their main question

they ask when thinking about the environment is “What’s your ImpACT?”, the reason for

capitalizing the I and ACT is because they want people to think how they act and that their

actions affect the environment as well. CSRHUB.com ranks Lear at 50% ranking compared to

18,423 other companies. Though this may not sound the best and it is not, historically Lear has

been ahead of the rest of the industry in the CSR rankings. One reason for it being this low is

because Lear is a manufacturing company so ultimately to get their products done and produced

they have to burn off emissions from their factories. Lear does follow all sections of the CSR

pyramid, most recently they have paired with United Way to help those in Argentina who are in

need. What they have worked on is called “The Place” and it “provides a cafeteria for children

and youth, offers social and educational workshops and has a small community garden and

library.” Annualreports.com also shares about Lear’s sustainability method and mission by

stating “LEAR IS COMMITTED TO IMPLEMENTING A SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGY

INCLUDING INTEGRATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC

ASPECTS INTO BUSINESS DECISIONS, OPERATIONS AND GOVERNANCE.” Lear is

trying to devote a lot of work and effort in to CSR throughout their company but being in the

manufacturing business will ultimately always bring them down in this category.
