SUBJECT: AFR Spring Update

MODELS AFFECTED: ALL VHP with ESM and AFR

The purpose of this bulletin is to inform the field

of a product update to VHP engines that have
1 2
ESM with AFR. Engines built after June 15, 2011,
utilize an updated regulator spring (P/N 214468).
The updated spring is very similar to the
previous spring and can be identified by the
parallel ground ends (see Figure 1). The spring
dimensions have also been changed to
increase clearance. See Figure 2 for a
comparative view of previous and updated
springs. These changes reduce the potential for
the regulator spring to bind in the stepper
housing and provide consistent regulator
response to stepper adjustments.
Engines built between August 2010 and
June 15, 2011, in which the regulator response to
stepper position is inconsistent, can be updated Figure 2
with the new spring.

4. Apply a light coating of lithium grease to the
threads of the stepper.

NOTICE
Ensure a light coating of lithium grease is on the
threads before threading in the stepper. Verify the
stepper is tight with the harness connector
positioned toward the engine block. This will protect
the harness connector from damage and allow the
connector to be attached without strain on the
harness.

5. Thread the stepper back into the regulator.
