Module 3 – 21st Century Skill Categories

Introduction
The 21st century skill help students to:
1. Build character
2. Cultivate compassion
3. Empathy
It is believed that it ensure that as children grow up, they are ethical and have
integrity for better future.
The skills are broken into three (3) categories:
A. Learning Skills (4 C’s) – teaches students about mental process required to
adapt and improve modern work environment.
1.0 Critical Thinking and Problem Solving
- It increases effective analyzing and evaluating evidence, arguments,
claims and beliefs.
- Finding solutions to problems
- Skills to be developed are:
a. Work together effectively in team
b. Reason effectively
c. Make judgements and decisions
d. Solve problems
2.0 Creativity and Innovation
- Uses wide range of idea and creation techniques
- Empower students to see concepts in different lights which lead to
innovation
- Skills to be developed are:
a. Think creatively
b. Work creatively with others
3.0 Collaboration
- Entails demonstrating ability to work effectively and respectfully with
diverse teams.
- Getting students to work together, achieve, compromise and get the best
possible results from solving a problem.
- Skill to be developed is
a. Work together effectively in team
4.0 Communication
- Pertains to articulate thoughts and ideas effectively using oral and written
communication
- It is the glue that brings all educational qualities together
- Skills to be developed is:
a. Communicate early
B. Literacy Skills – focuses on how students can discuss facts, publishing outlook
and technology behind
1.0 Information Literacy
- Accessing and evaluating information critically and competently and
managing from variety sources
- Understanding facts, figures, statistics and date
- Skills
a. Access and evaluate information
b. Use and manage information
- Examples:
a. Listening
b. Speaking
c. Reading
d. Writing
2.0 Media Literacy
- Creating media products by understanding and utilizing most appropriate
tools and character
- Skills to be developed:
- Analyze media
- Create media products
3.0 Technology Literacy
- Use of technology as a tool to research, organize, evaluate and
communicate information
- Understanding the machines that makes the information age possible
- Skill to be developed:
a. Apply technology effectively

C. Life Skills – today’s life and work environments both require more than thinking
skills and content. This pertains to personal and professional skills
1.0 Flexibility – diversity from plans as needed
- Expressions of someone’s ability to adapt changing circumstances
- Requires humility and accept that they will always have a lot to learn
- Skills to be developed:
a. Adapt to change
b. Be flexible
2.0 Leadership and responsibility
- Setting goals, walking a team thoroughly and achieving goals
collaboratively
- Skills to be developed:
a. Guide and lead others
b. Be responsible to others
3.0 Initiative and Self-Direction
- Working on project outside of regular hours.
- Require students to learn about productivity
a. Manage goals and time
b. Work independently
c. Be self directed learner
4.0 Productivity and Accountability
- Student’s ability to complete work in an appropriate amount of time
- Skills to be developed
a. Manage projects
b. Produce results
5.0 Social and Cross Cultural Skill
- Being aware of emotions and communicating patterns and using them
effectively in different situations with people
- It is how one recognize, interpret and respond to social situations.
- Skills to be developed:
a. Interact effectively with others
b. Work effectively in diverse teams
