Guide Questions

1. At present, countries who joined the Paris Treaty have eight remaining years to attain the
goal and counteract the irreversible effects of climate change as shown in the video?
Mention a country and their ongoing programs that could help mitigate the effects of
climate change.

Answer:

One country actively involved in addressing climate change and committed to

mitigating its effects is Germany. Germany has been a prominent advocate for climate
action and renewable energy transition. One of the ongoing programs and initiatives in
Germany is the Energy Transition where they have been pursuing an ambitious energy
transition strategy to phase out nuclear power and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The
goal is to rely more on renewable energy sources like wind, solar, and biomass. Another
is the Renewable Energy Expansion whereas they invested heavily in renewable energy
sources and has set a target to generate high percentage of its electricity from renewable
sources by the coming years.

2. The 13th objective of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals states that
member countries should take urgent action towards combatting climate change and its
impact. Do you think our country has done enough to contribute to the mitigation of the
effects of climate change particularly on biodiversity by 2030?
Answer:
I think our countrymen are doing their utmost to do their part in contributing to the
mitigation of the effects of climate change. Our government agencies, the DENR, for
example, are implementing resolutions on regulating and phasing out plastics in different
parts of the country and using environment-friendly alternative products. I personally
observe these, especially here in Batangas City, that plastics are prohibited. Fast food
chains and restaurants are obliged to use wooden cutlery and paper cups for their food
service. From this simple point of view, it may not be a broad solution, but at least we are
taking part in the change that our world needs.

3. Based on the documentary that you have watched, enumerate three evidence of rapid
climate change in the Philippines. Support your claim/answer by facts.
Answer:
i. Extreme weather events:
According to German Watch Global Climate Risk Index 2021, we are at the
top 4 spot in the countries most affected by climate change that causes multiple
Super Typhoon visits in the country.
ii. Increase in Sea Level
When the ice in the poles melt due to the extreme heat, it will increase the
sea level that may affect our biodiversity.
iii. Acidification of Ocean that will change our ecosystem
When the Oceans become warmer, it will affect our natural climate that will
result in change in biodiversity. This may change the migration and life
cycle of the animals that might affect the ecosystem. And when the
ecosystem was affect, we are also affected because we are part of the
ecosystem. These may result in possible problem on food security in the
future.

4. Give your opinion if there will be benefits that our country could gain (or none) in joining
international treaties such as the Paris Agreement for climate change.

Answer:
A nation's commitment on working together to address global concerns is shown
by its participation in international accords. Being a part of Paris Agreement will encourage
global cooperation because climate change is a problem that needs to be addressed
collectively on a global scale. Showing that we are very serious matter may also increase
our country’s reputation as protector of planet.

5. What are the consequences that the Philippines could experience if our country fail to
meet the 2030 climate change deadline?
Answer:
As enumerated in my answer in question #3, it is very clear that our country is
greatly affected by the result of climate change. Unable to meet the 2023 climate change
deadline will result to multiple adversities that the Philippines may face. We have
experienced sever typhoons in the past and the inflation of today, these things may be
even more severe when the global warming takes its course to the point of no return or
the so called the “Irreversible Effects” it may bring.
