Continuing to provide quality parts and exceptional service

worldwide

KMP Brand Quality Department has a library of several thousands of developed and
approved drawings and samples which are frequently referred to, along with our
extensive OEM Part Store, to ensure that all KMP Brand parts are manufactured to
the correct specification. Our department uses a selection of metrology techniques

1
and equipment throughout the development and quality control process, some of
which are shown below.

X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) Analyser

KMP is proud to announce the latest addition to the KMP Quality Department - new X-
Ray Fluorescence (XRF) Analyser. This high-tech, handheld piece of technology is
able to determine the material composition of many different types of components
through non-destructive spectroscopy, ensuring KMP Brand material specifications
are being met.

Co-ordinate
Measuring Machine

Our Co-ordinate
Measuring Machine
(CMM) is a robotic
machine used to
measure the geometry
and dimensions of our
parts such as pistons,

2
ring gears, crankshafts,
camshafts and valve
train components.

Digital Microscope

The digital video

microscope can zoom
up to 160x and is
invaluable in the
measurement of bearing
material thickness,
piston ring coating
analysis and close up
surface analysis.

Mechanical Piston
Ring Tester

The mechanical piston

ring tester is used to
measure the tangential
tension force
(springiness) of
piston rings.

3
Crankshaft and Camshaft Analysis

We use a calibrated digital micrometer to measure the journal diameters of

crankshafts and camshafts. The digital micrometer has a resolution of 1 micron.

Hardness Testing

Hardened components can be tested using either a Leeb Hardness Tester or the

4
Rockwell Hardness Tester to measure the hardness of valves, piston pins, cam
followers, crankshaft/camshaft journals, valve seats etc.

Digital Micrometers

The dimensions of
smaller engine parts are
measured using
calibrated digital
micrometers.

Shadowgraph

The shadowgraph is
used to analyse part
profiles and is beneficial
in the measurement of
valve angles and piston
ring profiles.

5
Shore durometer

We use a shore durometer which measures the hardness of rubber materials like
gaskets and seals to aid in our development process.
