(On the stage are a farm and a field. Everything is grey. Dorothy appears with her dog. There is an introduction with
music that links to SONG 1)

DOROTHY: (Yawning) Aah, good morning, Toto! What a wonderful day! Hello, everyone! How are you? My name is
Dorothy! I live on this farm and this is Toto, my dog. (Toto barks)

AUNTY EM: Good morning, Dorothy!

DOROTHY: Good morning, Aunty Em! How are you?

AUNTY EM: Mmm. Not very well. This weather makes my bones hurt. Ouch! Help me carry the wood. Ouch, ouch,
my knees.

(Uncle Henry appears)

DOROTHY: Good morning, Uncle Henry! How are you?

UNCLE HENRY: MMMMFFFF! (Grumbling) Not really well, a storm is coming, the sky is grey. I will need to lock up the
sheep, the horses, the ducks and the pigs. Grrrr! You know I am afraid of storms!

AUNTY EM: Come on, we must tidy up and hide in the basement. Ouch, my back.

UNCLE HENRY: Don't worry Em, I will take care of the animals. Ah, it's coming! Come-on, come on, it is here!

DOROTHY: Wait! Where is Toto? Toto! Toto! Iʼm going after him.

AUNTY EM: Come inside! We are out of time!

DOROTHY: I'm not leaving Toto outside! He is so small! (Exit)

UNCLE HENRY: Come on, Dorothy. He will make it! Ah, the hurricane is here! Grrrr! Come on in! Now!

AUNTY EM: Dorothy! Dorothy! There is no time. Come on!

(They open the basement door. Aunty Em, and Uncle Henry enter. Then Dorothy appears with Toto.)

DOROTHY: Toto, I finally found you! We must go inside! (She tries to open the door, but she can't) I can't open it!

(She struggles against the wind and she enters the house. The house starts spinning. After the noise of the wind,
everything is quiet again)

SCENE 2 – MUNCHKINLAND

DOROTHY: What happened? The house is not moving anymore. Come Toto, let’s go outside. (Glinda appears)

GLINDA: Are you a good witch or a bad witch?

DOROTHY: Who, me? I'm not a witch at all. I'm Dorothy Gale, from Kansas. Who are you?

GLINDA: I'm Glinda, the good Witch of the North. My sister and I, protect the lands of the North and the South.
Sadly, the lands of the East and the West have always been ruled by our two other wicked sisters. But now that you –
well, your house, has destroyed the Witch of the East, there is only one Wicked Witch in all the Land of Oz.

DOROTHY: Wait, where am I?

GLINDA: You are in Oz, the land over the rainbow. Where are you from?

DOROTHY: I’m from Kansas, a hurricane brought my house here, and I really want to go back there.

GLINDA: I will give you something that will help you… Here, take these ruby shoes.

DOROTHY: Thank you! But how do I use them?

(The Wicked Witch of the West appears.)

WICKED WITCH OF THE WEST: Who killed my sister? Who killed the Witch of the East? Was it you?

DOROTHY: No. It was an accident!

WICKED WITCH OF THE WEST: The ruby slippers! Give them back to me! You don’t know how to use them! Give
them back!

GLINDA: Oh, shut up! You have no power here. Get out!

WICKED WITCH OF THE WEST: I will go, but we will meet again, Dorothy! Ha, ha,ha! I Will come back!

(exit)

DOROTHY: OH MY GOD I was so scared! I need to get back home as soon as possible.

GLINDA: The only person who can help you is Wizard of Oz. He lives in the Emerald City.

DOROTHY: Which way is it?

GLINDA: Follow the yellow brick road. And remember, never take off the ruby slippers! (exit)

SCENE 3 - FIELD

DOROTHY: Follow the Yellow... Now which way do we go?

SCARECROW: Hi!

DOROTHY: Who said that?

SCARECROW: Me!

DOROTHY: (still looking around) Where are you?

SCARECROW: Here!

(Dorothy sees the scarecrow and goes up to him)

SCARECROW: How are you?

DOROTHY: Pretty well, thank you. My name is Dorothy, how are you?

SCARECROW: I’m not feeling well, my arms hurt. I can’t put them down because I have sticks in my sleeves. Maybe
you can help me!

DOROTHY: Of course! (She pulls a stick from one arm and then from the other. The scarecrow flaps his arms and
dances around the stage) …Hey, do you know where the Emerald City is?

SCARECROW: I don't know much; I have no brains. Why do you want to go there?

DOROTHY: Well, I’m from Kansas and I want to go back there so I am going to the Emerald City to meet the Wizard of
Oz because he can help me. Maybe you can come with me and ask the wizard to give you a brain!

SCARECROW: (delighted) Thank you!

DOROTHY: To Oz?

SCARECROW: To Oz!

SCENE 4 - WOOD

DOROTHY: Look! it's a man! A man made out of tin!

TIN WOODMAN: Mmmm...mmmm...

SCARECROW: He said "oilcan".

DOROTHY: Oilcan? Oh, here it is. (Dorothy takes the oilcan that was on the ground and oils tin woodman’s mouth,
legs and arms)

TIN WOODMAN: My... My... My goodness! I can talk and move again! This is wonderful!

DOROTHY: How did this happen?

TIN WOODMAN: It was the rain! It made me rusty.

DOROTHY: Well, you are perfect now.

TIN WOODMAN: No I’m not perfect because the tinsmith forgot to give me a heart.

SCARECROW: Well we’re on our way to the Emerald city to see the Wiard of Oz.

TIN WOODMAN: Why?

DOROTHY: I want him to send me back to Kansas and Scarecrow wants him give him a brain. Do you want to come
with us to the Emerald City? You could ask the Wizard for a heart.

TIN WOODMAN: Oh yes! Thank you! (takes the oil can).

(The Wicked Witch of the West appears.)

WICKED WITCH OF THE WEST: Ha, ha, ha! Well, well... What we have here? A Scarecrow and a Tin Woodman. Are
you helping the little girl? What about a nice storm Tin Woodman? What about a little fire Scarecrow? HA HA HA!

DOROTHY: It is the Wicked Witch of the West!

WICKED WITCH OF THE WEST: Give me those ruby slippers!

DOROTHY: No!

SCARECROW: We are not afraid of you!

TIN WOODMAN: Go away, witch!

WICKED WITCH OF THE WEST: Fine! But I have a little surprise for you!... (To the audience) I’ve rearranged the yellow
bricks and they will lead them right into the dark forest! Ha, ha, ha!

TIN WOODMAN: Don’t worry Dorothy! We are not afraid of that witch. I want my heart.

SCARECROW: And I want my brain.

DOROTHY: And I want to go home.

SCARECROW: Then... to Oz?

TOGETHER: To Oz!

SCENE 5 - DARK FOREST

DOROTHY: I don't like this forest. It's dark and creepy! Do you think we will meet any wild animals?

TIN WOODMAN: Maybe!

DOROTHY: oh my!

(The Lion appears)

LION: Aaaarrggghhh! Come on! Come on! Which one of you first? I will fight you both together, if you want. I will
fight you with one paw behind my back! I will fight you on one foot! I will fight you with my eyes closed! Come on!
Come on!

TIN WOODMAN: Go away and leave us alone.

LION: Come on, Scarecrow! Come on, Tin Woodman! Are you afraid?

DOROTHY: (She hits the lion) Shame on you!

LION: Ouch! Why did you do that?

DOROTHY: Because you scared us.

LION: I’m sorry…Is my nose bleeding? (Crying)

DOROTHY: of course not! You are a big coward!

LION: You are right. I am a coward! I haven't got any courage at all!

SCARECROW: Do you think the Wizard could help him too?

DOROTHY: Maybe he could! Come with us, we are on our way to see the Wizard. To get a heart for Scarecrow and a

and now the people of Oz are happy because you killed the Wicked Witch of the East and the West. You are the

DOROTHY: I know but I want to go back home! I miss my family and friends!

WIZARD OF OZ: (takes off the mask and the cape) I’m sorry Dorothy but I can’t take you home. I’m not a real wizard, I

DOROTHY: Oh, my! Just like me!

(Glinda appears)

GLINDA: Hello, my dear!

DOROTHY: Glinda! Iʼm so happy to see you. I can’t get back home and the Wizard of Oz can’t help me.

GLINDA: Dorothy don’t worry, I didn’t tell you at first, but your slippers are magic.

DOROTHY: Really?

GLINDA: Close your eyes. Tap your heels together three times and think to yourself “there’s no place like home.”

DOROTHY: Oh, Glinda! Thank you very much! And thank you too, Wizard of Oz. You helped my friends, and now
they are happy, thanks to you…I will never forget you, my friends. (pause) There’s no place like home!
