what is ebola?

Ebola is a very rare but deadly virus. The reason its so

rare is because it is transmitted from wild animals
also human but its more rare generally. this virus
causes fever, body aches, and diarrhea, etc. When a
person has ebola there can also be chances of
bleeding internal and outer body (meaning inside and
outside the body incase anyone doesn’t know). The
more the virus spreads through the body before
starting the treatment the more it has a higher risk of
death .

The average evd cases of deaths in Africa are up to

50%, says the world health organization -WHO. (Also
again for the people who keep asking Evd is a
shortcut version of ebola virus disease.)
History of ebola

The first outbreak occurred in the Democratic

Republic of Congo in a village near the Ebola
River, which gave the virus its name.

The Ebola virus was first discovered in 1976.

Since then, the virus has been infecting people
from time to time, leading to outbreaks in
several African countries.

Also commonly known by its original name

Legbala, it is the headstream river of the
Mongala River, a tributary of the Congo River,
in northern Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The most affected groups by EVD within Age group,
gender, cultural most affected by disease
There have been more Ebola cases in women during more recent outbreak, and the most affected age-group
among women is 25 to 34. Men ages 35 to 44 are most likely to have been infected..

for gender men use to have it more since a man had got it first it spread more throughout cause they tend to
have more intercourse. but in more recent cases like i already mentioned its more woman.
Its a disease that started when men started having sexual intercourse with chimpanzees, apes and monkeys.
Since the disease i originally from Africa the disease is mostly spread throughout their .
The reason why not old people but younger people tend to have it is because they tend to be more sexually
active but if an older person has it it can be more dangerous or also if they get treatment late.
EVD outbreak
The outbreak lasted from March 2014 to June
2016.Which was a devastating outbreak with
318 cases and 218 deaths for a case fatality
ratio of 88%, one of the most deadly outbreak
in history. Since 1976.

There have been, 26 outbreaks of Ebola virus

has occurred in ten countries of Africa,
including Democratic Republic of Congo,
Sudan, Gabon, Cote d'Ivoire, South Africa,
Uganda.

Most people affected by the outbreak were in

Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia. (western
Africa)
How does ebola affect your
daily life?

People shouldn’t don't touch each other anymore. Even

with my family.

People who were ashamed to come out during the day

because they were infected with Ebola used to take
motorbikes at night and go to nurses who would just
treat them for malaria. So they have stopped all
transportation after 7 p.m.

Everything is shut down—no business, no work. Banks

now close at 1 p.m. Many people have lost their jobs
and they are sitting at home with nothing to do.
Symptoms of ebola
Symptoms may appear anywhere from 2 to 21 days after
contact with the virus, with an average of 8 to 10 days.

Fever

Aches and pains, such as severe headache, muscle and

joint pain, and abdominal pain

Weakness and fatigue

stomach symptoms including diarrhea and vomiting

Abdominal pain

bleeding or bruising

Other symptoms may include red eyes, skin rash, and

hiccups
How the disease
affects the body

it damages the immune system and organs.

Ultimately, it causes levels of blood-clotting
cells to drop. This leads to severe,
uncontrollable bleeding.
How to treat or prevent
Avoid areas of known outbreaks. Before traveling to
Africa, find out about current epidemics

Wash your hands frequently.

Avoid bush meat. In developing countries, avoid buying

or eating the wild animals

Avoid contact with infected people. In particular,

caregivers should avoid contact with an infected person's
body fluids and tissues.

Follow infection-control procedures. If you're a health

care worker, wear specialized personal protective
equipment that covers you from head to toe.

Don't handle remains. The bodies of people who have

died of Ebola virus or Marburg virus are still contagious.
How does it spread

You can’t get Ebola through the air. You can’t

get Ebola through water. You can’t get Ebola
through food. You can only get Ebola through
touching bodily fluids of a person who is sick
with or has died from Ebola or from exposure
to contaminated objects such as needles.
Facts

28,616 people were suspected or confirmed to

be infected; 11,310 people died.

The Second-Worst Outbreak Is Happening

Now

There’s No Cure, but There Are Promising

Treatments Being Studied.

Case fatality rate for Ebola virus is 90%,

according to the WHO.

The Ebola virus is not waterborne or airborne.

Weird facts

On October 8 the Spanish government put to death the dog of a Spanish nursing aide infected
with Ebola. The Spanish Government. justified their action by citing the possibility of the
dog transmitting the virus
