JAMMUAND WULAR LAKE • The Largest freshwater lake in India


KASHMIR formed due to tectonic activity.
• Located at Banctipora district and at the
mouth ofWular- Tulbul Project
• Fed by Jhelum and Madhumati river.
• Supports : Important fishing industry
and is a valuable source of water for
irrigation.
• Threats : Shrinking size due to
encroachments and depleted fish stocks.
HYGAM WETLAND • Located at the Downstream of wular lake
CONSERVATION within the Jhelum river basin.
RESERVE • Supports : Eurasian otter, common carp
and common Pochard.
• Threat - high rate of siltation
SHALLBUGH • Located west of Anchar Lake near in
WETLAND Sindh river delta.
CONSERVATION • It plays a major role in the natural control
RESERVE of flooding and act as carbon sink.
• Supports : Steppe Eagle (EN), Pallas's
Fish-Eagle (EN) and Black-Bellied Tern
(EN)
• Threats : Excessive siltation is
threatening the Site's ecological
characteristics.
HOKERAWETLAND • Located at the northwest Himalayan bio-
geographic -back of the snow-draped P ir

• Fed by Doodh ganga and Sukhnag rivers
and it is contiguous to the Jhelum basin.
• Supports : White-Eyed (Ferruginous)
Pochard (NT) and common shelduck.
• Threats: Littered garbage and demand
for increasing tourist facilities.
SURINSAR MANSAR • It is a freshwater composite lake in semi-

Basin.
• Located near Jammu-it is Hindu sacred
site.
• Supports : CITES and IUCN Red.listed
Lissemys punctata, Aspideretes
gangeticus, and Mansariella lacustris.

increasing visitors.
LADAKH TSO KARWETLAND • It includes two connected lakes, the
COMPLEX freshwater Startsapuk Tso and the larger
hypersaline Tso Kar
• Located at high altitude-Changthang
region.
• Supports: Breeding area of the Black-
Necked Cranes (NT), Saker Falcon (EN),
Asiatic Wild Dog (Dhole - EN) and Snow

Vulture (CR) and Sociable Lapwing (CR).
• Threats : Drainage, water abstraction,
damming and canalization.
UTTAR HAJDERPUR • Located. in Hastinapur WLS formed by
PRADESH WETLAND the construction of the Madhya Ganga
Barrage.
• Supports : Gharial (CR), Golden Mahseer
(EN), Hog Deer (EN) and Swamp Deer
(VU).
• Threa ts : Anthropogenic pressures .
UPPER GANGA • It is a shallow river stretch of the great

Spotted Eagle (VU) and Common Pochard
(VU).
• Threats : Urban pressure and
developmental activities.
MADHYA SAKHYA SAGAR • It is a Human made reservoir.

Otter (VU) and Hump-Backed Mahseer

fertilizers, and infestation by water

MANIPUR LOKTAK LAKE • The lar gest f reshwater l ake in
North-east India.
• Keibul Lamjao,-the only floating national
park in the w orld, floats over it.
• Thick floating mats of weeds (phumids)
are a characteristic feature.
