Introductory Message
Welcome to Community Engagement, Solidarity and Citizenship Grade 12!

The Learning Activity Sheet is a product of the collaborative efforts of the


Schools Division of Silay and DepEd Regional Office VI - Western Visayas through
the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD). This is developed to
guide the learning facilitators (teachers, parents, and responsible adults) in helping
the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum.

The Learning Activity Sheet is self-directed instructional materials aimed to


guide the learners in accomplishing activities at their own pace and time using the
contextualized resources in the community. This will also assist the learners in
acquiring the lifelong learning skills, knowledge and attitudes for productivity and
employment.

For the learning facilitator:

Activity Sheet will help you facilitate the teaching-learning activities specified in
each Most Essential Learning Competency (MELC) with minimal or no face-to-face
encounter between you and the learner. This will be made available to the learners
with the references/links to ease the independent learning.

Activity Sheet is developed to help you continue learning even if you are not in
school. This learning material provides you with meaningful and engaging activities
for independent learning. Being an active learner, carefully read and understand the
instructions then perform the activities and answer the assessments. This will be

II. Background Information for Learners

Community action is an activity that:

b) Increases the understanding, engagement and empowerment of communities.

The following are the methods and Approaches in Understanding Community

1. Partnership building with the local group


- allow members to work together
 To address concerns.
 Plan ways to meet the community’s objective.
2. Community profile
-overview of relevant information about a certain community.
3. Needs assessment
 process of determining the needs of a community
 Planning ways to address the concerns that were gathered along.
4. Leadership and Participatory Action Planning
- Community leadership is less hierarchical and often based on voluntary actions,
serving as an instrument for change.
- Participatory action is an approach that uses different means to address issues
identified by a community.
5. Resource mobilization
- Process of getting range of resources from donors or using mechanisms
for a community’s project to work and achieve its goal.
6. Social action in Sociology pertains to the act that a person makes taking into
account the reactions and behaviour of others.

In this lesson, students will able to apply some of the systematic methods of
community action to better help them understand their community.
