ASSIGNMENT
LESSON 3

1. How does technology change the teaching-learning environment? You provide

experiences from elementary, high school, or college.

Technology changes the teaching-learning environment because students can collaborate

on group projects using technology-based tools such as wikis and Google docs. The walls
of the classrooms are no longer a barrier as technology enables new ways of learning,
communicating, and working collaboratively.

During my college days our instructor give us an activity online because she has an
important matter to. Technology can make teaching more efficient and effective. The
arrays of methods and strategies, and even the learning styles can be supported with
technology.

2. In what ways can technology support teacher’s professional development?

Technology can support teacher’s professional development with the demand of

continuing professional development for teachers, technology provide alternative ways of
attending professional online development through online platforms and technology
support tools.

3. How can technology support the development of the learner’s critical thinking,
problem-solving, and creative abilities?

Technology grants access to vast amounts of information, challenging you to discern

credible sources, analyze evidence, and identify biases. Online research tools, fact-
checking websites, and educational platforms can cultivate this skill.

Title of the Article: The Emerging Internet of Things

Source: Rainie, Lee and Maeve Duggan. 2016. Privacy and Information Sharing. Washington, DC:
Pew
Author: Christopher S. Yoo
Summary of the Article:
One of the most dynamic and exciting developments in information and communications
technology is the advent of the Internet of Things (IoT). Although networking technologies have
become increasingly ubiquitous over the past two decades, until recently they have largely been
restricted to connecting traditional end-user devices, such as mainframes, desktop and laptop
computers, and, more recently, smartphones and tablets.

Recent years have witnessed the attachment of a much broader range of devices to the
network. These have included vehicles, household appliances, medical devices, electric meters
and controls, street lights, traffic controls, smart TVs and digital assistants such as Amazon Alexa
and Google Home. Industry analysts estimate that there are currently more than eight billion
such devices connected to the network and project that this number will expand to more than
25 billion by 2020. The increasing deployment of these devices has enabled new use cases for
network technologies. Some experts project that the IoT may generate as much as US$13
trillion in revenue by 2025.

What lessons have you learned?

This article introduces students to the concept of online privacy and the potential implications
of sharing private information with a range of people: friends, the public, app providers, and
more. Sharing information about yourself can be a natural and healthy activity, and it can lead
to positive connections and personal growth.
What suggestions can you offer as a teacher?
As a teacher I suggest in order to present safety risks, and students need to be aware of
potentially harmful consequences such as identity theft and financial exploitation.

Title of the Article: Phl’s E-waste Problem: Over 24 M Phones Discarded Yearly by 2021 (July 9,
2019)
Source: https://www.onenews.ph/articles/phl-s-e-waste-problem-over-24-m-phones-discarded-
yearly-by-2021
Author: Janvic Mateo
Summary of the Article:
This article discusses the country's waste problem goes beyond tons of plastic products,
particularly the electronic waste in many areas, clogging rivers and other waterways, and
polluting. Electronic waste or e-waste products that are unwanted, not working, and nearing or
at the end their “useful life”. A study was conducted by engineers from the University of the
Philippines to address this problem which aims to emphasize the need for a national policy to
manage electronic waste or e-waste, especially the millions of mobile phones discarded each
year by Filipinos. The data collected revealed a stable figure on the estimated number of mobile
phone waste in the Philippines and continued to rise in the following years. Disposal or
replacement of phones after one to two years for feature phones due to their low prices is one
of the most reasons why Filipinos have discarded their mobile phones. Almost all of the users
do not know the proper waste disposal of mobile phones, and often found mixed with other
waste in the country based on the study. E-waste a threat to people and the planet, when
improperly treated, is a serious health concern because it contains hazardous components that
could contaminate air, water, and soil, and harmful chemicals such as lead and mercury could
make their way through the food chain. It is not as if nothing has been done to fix problem, but
there are laws implemented about e-waste management were not strictly enforced and
followed, and various bills have been filed mandating the recycling of mobile phones that were
not approved. The government especially the DENR Environmental Management Bureau and
other organizations launched a project designed to support the disposal of e-waste containing
highly toxic chemicals, promoting proper disposal of consumer electronics, e-waste treatment,
storage, and disposal facility had been established to still fix the e-waste problem in the
country.

What lessons have you learned?

I’ve learned the Negative Effects on Humans. As mentioned, electronic waste contains toxic
components that are dangerous to human health, such as mercury, lead, cadmium,
polybrominated flame retardants, barium and lithium.

What suggestions can you offer as a teacher?

As a teacher I suggest that we establish efficient recycling system helps recover valuable
materials from discarded devices while minimizing the environmental impact of raw material
extraction
