Anyone Who Speaks the Language can Teach the Language

Hello. My name is France. I’m not from France but from the Philippines.

I don’t agree with the assumption “Anyone who speaks the language can teach the
language” simply because not all persons know the proper style and methods for
teaching. Just like the metaphor, “Language is cake”, it speaks about how you present
the language and not how well you know it. “While you may have the greatest tasting
cake in your hands, how you present the cake is one of the most important factors for
students’ success”.

As mentioned in the lecture, learners often see technique before they see content. From
the first few seconds, students can quickly see and judge how good or bad the teacher
is—whether or not they would be able to learn the language. Hence, teachers should
focus not only on the content but also on the technique. No matter how good the
teacher is in speaking the language, and yet he/she doesn’t know the technique for
teaching it, then teaching will not be effective and students will not learn. There should,
therefore, be a balance between technique and content.
