a. Elicit

What can you see about the picture? - Teacher, there are cracks in
the ground and also in the
buildings.
b. Engage
Does anyone in the class ever experience
an earthquake? Yes

What do you observe when there is an

earthquake? There’s shaking grounds

What should we do when there is an

earthquake?

What chances do you see on the ground?

There’s crocks the land and
c. Explore displacement of the land.

I have prepared a short video

presentation so let’s watch it.

Show pictures of an earthquake damage

uneven ground, cracks in roads, etc.)

Landslide

Soil Liquefaction

Avalanche
Tsunami

Fire

Ask students to carefully observe each

picture and discuss the following
questions in pairs or small groups:

1. What kind of changes do you see in

the ground?

d. Explain

Imagine the Earth is like a giant puzzle

made of many big pieces called plates.
These plates fit together, but they're not
stuck! They move very slowly, kind of like
how continents drift over a long time.

Most earthquakes are just tiny tremors,

like little wiggles you wouldn't even feel.
But bigger ones can make the ground
shake more noticeably, and the strongest
earthquakes can cause a lot of movement
and damage.

There are 3 types of earthquakes namely

convergent boundary, divergent
boundary, and transform fault.

Let us watch this video for you to see

what happens in the three types of
earthquakes.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cDKmiWuO43U

Convergent boundary
One plate is forced over another during
an earthquake that causes a thrust fault.
Through this, many mountains have been
formed.

A divergent boundary is when plates

drift apart from each other and form what
we call a rift zone that gives birth to new
ocean floors

Transform faults, in this type of

earthquake, the plates slip by each other
and this is also called a strike-slip.

When does the earthquake usually

occur?
Earthquake happens along faults. And
class, faults are the cracks that are found
in our earth's crust. When the two plates
past to each other it releases a big
amount of energy that causes the earth to
shake.

The point of origin of the earthquake

beneath the surface is called the focus.
The epicenter is the point above the
surface where it points where the
earthquake is felt strongest.

Class, do you have an idea what is

PHIVOLCS?
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology
and Seismology or PHIVOLCS is an
agency here in our country that monitors
earthquakes.

Again class what are the 3 types of

earthquakes?

What does PHIVOLCS stand for?
