SY 2020-2021

GRADE (JHS) : 10
QUARTER 1: EARTH SCIENCE WEEK: 4
MELC: Describe the different types of plate boundaries.
Learning Competencies: a) Identify the types of plate boundaries. (S10ES –Ia-j-36.2.2)
b) Identify the type of plate boundary associated with each major lithospheric
plate. (S10ES –Ia-j-36.2.3)
c) Describe the movement in each type of plate boundary. (S10ES –Ia-j-36.2.4)
d) Relate each type of plate with the stress on rocks. (S10ES –Ia-j-36.2.5)

ACTIVITY 2: PLATE INTERACTIONS

Specific Objectives: Given the necessary materials, the learner should be able to:
a. identify the different types of plate boundaries;
b. characterize the different plate boundaries according to the direction of movement they
exhibit;
c. name the type of stress each plate interaction experienced.
Brief Descriptions: There are three types of plate interaction
• Divergent Plate Boundaries
• Convergent Plate Boundaries
• Transform Plate Boundaries
 Divergent Plate Boundaries are where plates are moving away from each other.
 Convergent Plate Boundaries are where plates are moving towards each other.
 Transform Plate Boundaries are when plates move side by side with each other.

Instructions/Procedures:
A. Complete the table below on the interactions of different plates

B. 1. Look at Figure 1 Map showing Tectonic Plate Boundaries and Geological Activity
2. Determine what type of plate boundary exists between each of
the two plates listed in Table 2.
3. Describe the type of stresses that occur between the plate
boundaries. Use the diagrams to the left:
