Weeks Jan 15 – Jan 29

The Mondays of each of these weeks we had meetings discussing the next steps for the
class as well as getting a mentor. We discussed the new semesters plan as well as new dues dates
and other such related topics. This entry is a combination of weeks because I wasn’t able to see
my mentor until week 3 of the class due to some communication and logistics errors. The first
day time I was able to meet with my mentor was on the 31st of January on a Wednesday. That
day we just had simple orientation where I toured the building and discussed some logistics of
interning and Axiom as well as things the facility offered and locations of key places. The next
two days Thursday and Friday consisted of my mentor Samantha and myself beginning work on
a modeling a piece of something. Unfortunately, because Axiom is a private company, I am able
to share pictures as of now and I have to keep quite about the specific work I do but for now it
comprises of working with my hands and nor a computer.
Week 2-5
This week I did the weekly meeting and spent the next 2 days constructing a wooden
model. Unfortunately, I can’t say much more about anything I did or do because of
confidentiality, however I made good progress on my work I wasn’t able to go in Thursday or
Friday.
Week 2-12
This week I did quite a lot. After the meeting on Monday, I spent two hours a day at
Axiom working on projects and finished construction of several things then prepped and
prepared for the next stage of building which I got halfway done and will finish the next time I
am there on Wednesday the 21st
Week 2-19
This week I did a lot of building and shadowed other areas of production. The model is
close to being full but nowhere near complete. There is much progress to made there but I made
good progress and that’s about all I can say.
Week 2-26
We had a normal meeting at school and discussed due dates and such. Wednesday, I met
with the robotics team, and we discussed designing and prototyping a part they need with visual
representation of they need it to do. After the meeting my mentor and I discussed what we were
going to do and researched some things regarding it. The following day we talked more about the
part and how we were going to get it done then we finalized a plan and will begin making a
rough draft soon when I have access to CAD.
Week 3-4
This we didn’t have a meeting because my teacher was out. This week was supposed to
mark the start of CAD designing and beginning to make the part, however, I still don’t have
SolidWorks the CAD program Axiom uses so I instead began making the last few segments of
the model.
Week 3-18
This week I finalized computer things and began some CAD work regarding the next project we
have going on which we discussed for a little while. I also installed some small 3D printed parts
onto our big model.
Week 3-22
This week was very chill. I sat in a chair and did many CAD things on SolidWorks for
the new project I am working on. It’s supposed to be an earth representation of a astronaut work
pole/arm used for maintenance outside the station.
Week 4-1 – 4-8
These last two weeks have been very chill. Monday meetings were nothing of note and
my work at axiom was CAD so nothing but sitting at a computer and doing design from a model
to represent the arm we are working on. Got the modeling completed on Thursday the 11th of
April, the next steps are to write up a part list and present it to the robotics team to see if it will
do what it needs to afterwards if everything checks out it’s building time.
Week 4-15 – 4-22
The last two weeks have been very busy. I started with some final touches to the original CAD
design I had in mind then I had a meeting with the robotics team where we put the idea under
review. We discussed it for a while and came up with a more fitting idea for the purposes it may
and will need to serve. Then I spent a day reworking the design and came up with something I
thought would work with the help of a co-worker. We then set up another meeting and this
design went through much better, only needing a few tweaks instead of a whole rework. The next
several days were spent researching and coming up with more designs which is what I will spend
the rest of my time doing as well as learning to better use SolidWorks.
