• How Mood influences Narration:


दे खें कैसे Mood Narration पर प्रभाव डालता हैैः
1. He said, "Babies drink milk." [Universal truth]
He said that Babies drink milk.

• No change of tense takes place if a universal truth is changed into indirect


speech.
यकद एक universal truth को indirect speech में बदलते हैं तब Tense को नही ं बदला जाता
है।
2. He said, "Babies, drink milk." [Imperative sentence]
He ordered the babies to drink milk.
➢ Here just a comma (,) has changed the mood of the sentence
यहााँ कसर्ा एक comma (,) ने वाक्य के mood को पररवकतात कर कदया।

• We use 'V2' (except 'was') in Past Subjunctive Mood. It expresses


improbabilities.
हम Past Subjunctive Mood में 'V2' (was को छोड़ कर) का प्रयोग करते हैं। तब यह
improbabilities को दर्ााता है।

• We use the base form of verb in Present Subjunctive Mood. It expresses


indirect suggestions, orders etc.
हम Present Subjunctive Mood में verb की base form का प्रयोग करते हैं। तब, यह
indirect suggestions, orders etc. को दर्ााता है।

Examples

1. This civil case doesn't require that he is present. (Change 'is' into 'be')

2. In this criminal case, it is imperative that he remains present in the court.


(Change 'remains' into 'remain')

3. According to a parable, Savitri prayed to the Almighty that her husband be


brought back to life. (No error)

Explanation of 6 & 7

Would rather, Had rather, Had Sooner, Had better express wish or strong desire.
They take second form of verb ( V2 ) after them but if followed by another
subject (as in 6), and base form if no such subject follows (as in 7).

व्याख्या 6 और 7
Would rather, Had rather, Had Sooner, Had better प्रबल इच्छा या सलाह को दर्ााता है ।
यहााँ subject के बाद base form आता है (जै से- sentence 7) परन्तु अगर had rather, had
better इत्याकद के बाद कोई दू सरा subject आ जाए (जै से- Sentence 6) तो V2 (was को छोड़ कर)
का प्रयोग होगा।
