Failure:

Description/condition of the equipment found during inspection (Facts of the Damage):

After the Water Pump was dismantled and inspected found some of the following facts:
 Found indication of cavitation on the wall of Diffuser, and tip of fin impeller High Pressure Pump
 During manual rotating test found there is not air come out form output hose of LH Piston priming pump
 After remove cover of LH piston priming pump found the valve plate was pinched and stuck open on the
output passage.
 Found lubrication oil of the priming pump was mixed with water, suspected the piston seal has been fail
 Found all of seals water pump has been fatigue/ harden, and the bushing was worn out
 After checked found condition of gear box still good.

Root cause of the Failure:

From further inspection, the most probable root cause of the NOISE problem from water pump is the Valve
Plate 074518-001 of Priming Pump was pinched and stuck open of the priming system
During operation, the priming pump not working properly to suck air in the suction lines of the water pump which
causes cavitation in the system.
The cavitation sounds like pumping marbles inside of pump.

Priming Pump

After remove cover of LH piston priming pump found

the valve plate was pinched and stuck open on the
output passage.
During operation, the priming pump not working
properly to suck air in the suction lines of the water
pump which causes cavitation in the system.
The cavitation sounds like pumping marbles inside of
pump.
