Subject: MAPEH- Music
Content Standard:

The learner demonstrates understanding of the characteristic features of the Medieval,


Renaissance and Baroque Period music.
Performance Standard:

The learner performs selected songs from the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque period:
Chants, madrigal, excerpts from oratorios, chorales and troubadours

Learning Competency:

At the end of the lesson, the student should be able to:

● describes the musical elements of selected vocal and instrumental music of Medieval,
Renaissance and Baroque music;

● explains the performance practice (setting, composition, role of composers/performers,


and audience) during Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque periods;

● Listens perceptively to selected vocal and instrumental music of Medieval Music

● Explains the performance practice (setting, Composition, Role of composers/ performers


and audience) during Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque Period.
● Sing Medieval chant and Troubadours song with correct pitch, rhythm, expression and
style.
● Describes musical elements of given Medieval , Renaissance and Baroque Music.

Lesson Proper
I. Introduction
MUSIC Lesson 1: Medieval Period
Set the students mood by showing the video evolution of music and let the
students answer the activity in “Quest and Achieve” letter A on page 2.

Lesson 2: Renaissance Period


Set the students’ mood by doing a simple activity in “Quest and Achieve”
letter C on pages 8-9.
The students will listen to the music “Give Thanks” and answer the
corresponding questions on page 8 - 9.

Lesson 3: Baroque Period


Allow the students to search videos about the baroque music and let them
describe it.

II. Instruction Lesson 1: Medieval Period

Discovering the music of Medieval.


● Using PPT presentation:
o Have the students read and discover the history of the Medieval
period.
o Make the students recite their discoveries.

Describe the nature of medieval, renaissance and baroque music.


● Using PPT presentation:
o Explain the various concepts in Medieval music.
o Provide examples of Medieval Music.
▪ Let the student listen to an example of a Gregorian Chant,
Monks of the Monestery”
Developmental Activities
● Discuss the summary of the lesson using question and respond strategy in
processing the students’ understanding.

Lesson 2: Renaissance Period

Discovering the music of Renaissance.


● Using PPT presentation:
o Have the students analyze the ”Take Note” activity which is the
concept map found on the book on page 9.
o Give the students an opportunity to share their interpretation about

the concept map.

Describe the nature of Renaissance Music.


● Using PPT presentation:
o Explain the various concepts in Renaissance Music.
o Let them give insights on the following statements:
▪ Important events that took place during the Renaissance
Period.
▪ The prominent people during the renaissance period

▪ The famous inventions and innovations during the


Renaissance period.

● Discuss the summary of the lesson using question and response strategy in
processing the students’ understanding.

Lesson 3: Baroque Period

Discovering the music of Baroque.


● Using PPT presentation:
o Have the students search videos about a given era and check the
event that took place during the Baroque Period.
o Give the students an opportunity to describe what they discover.

Describe the nature of Baroque Music.


● Using PPT presentation:
o Explain the various concepts in Baroque Music.
o Let them give insights on the following statements:
▪ History and background of the Baroque period.

▪ The different instrumental and vocal forms of the period.

▪ The famous composer during the Baroque period.

● Discuss the summary of the lesson using question and response strategy in
processing the students’ understanding.

Generalization:
● Explain briefly the Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque music.

On a 1/2 sheet of paper, set the standards in giving self-evaluation and evaluation
as a class in relation to the content and performance standard.
● Let the students’ answer the ”Create and Express” letters A-C on pages 4-
5, to assess the learner’s knowledge about the topic.

On a 1/2 sheet of paper, set the standards in giving self-evaluation and evaluation
as a class in relation to the content and performance standard.
● Let the students’ answer the “Create and Express” letter A on page 11, to
assess the learner’s knowledge about the topic.

Quiz no. 3
On a 1/2 sheet of paper, set the standards in giving self-evaluation and evaluation
as a class in relation to the content and performance standard.
● Let the students’ answer the “Create and Express” letter A on page 17, to
assess the learner’s knowledge about the topic.

Summative Examination
On a 1/2 sheet of paper, set the standards in giving self-evaluation and evaluation
as a class in relation to the content and performance standard.
● Let the students’ answer in Expression 9 - Teacher's Guide on pages 18-19,
to assess the learner’s knowledge about the topic.

Performance Task

Instruct the students to sing an example of Chant or Love Song by group.


● Watch a YouTube video of chant and love songs.

● Ask for the important details to note in the video shown earlier.

● Let them present in front of the class.
